I have won 6 tickets that i couldnt use - and since i would not enter a comp for them, i have presumed they were "booby" prizes0

I do agree to most of what has been said. On the whole, I do not enter comps for tickets or holidays, as I know that i most likely would not use them. However, if I see a comp for say, the red hot chillipeppers, which my best friend loves, I will look in the T&C to see if the tickets are transferable, I know that she would appreicate the thought!0

You must also take into account that if tickets are not used, then that promoter may think twice about placing new competitions. It is easy to click away and enter everything...some people are very very lucky and win loads..as long as someone can use them, fair enough....but I 'd like to think that most people would use their prizes and appreciate their luck.
I won two tickets to Donington races...my great mistake was that my geography was lousy and it wasn't where I thought it was....however me and my grandson went for a very long drive anyway and had a brilliant day..
There's nothing wrong tho winning tickets and giving them away...I enter some for family members as I know they would love the prize.
TwistedPsycho I agree with you totally.....and just lets hope that all of us can have a lovely long list of prizes later in the year....You always think you are doign well..sharing things, especially in competitions, helping others to find and enter them,...but there is always someone selfish and back biting who will object.
Oh well..and i thought this place was different...but it isn't. Shame on you...whoever it was...0 -
Right, well it's my go now...
I don't actually think that it's got any of your or anyone's business how / why people choose to enter the competitions that they do & whether they can or can't use tickets.
If you win & then unfortunately can't go or something else crops up or maybe you just want to sell the tickets on, who cares, someone else won and you didn't that's just the way the cookie crumbles.
that's my two penneth in! :rotfl:0 -
I will stick my head above the parapet here and say I disagree.
If the tickets are non-transferable then I DO agree with you, as the tickets will go to waste.
However I see nothing wrong in entering competitions for tickets which can be sold on Ebay. For me, this is no different to selling other prizes on Ebay.
I have sold some tickets on Ebay in these circumstances. I have also given tickets to family.
People enter competitions for different reasons. Some only enter for prizes they personally want. Others do it purely to sell prizes for financial again. I am a combination of the two - some I keep and some I sell.
I don't think it is fair to criticise other people for how they dispose of their competition wins
I have to agree with Roberta, i enter competitions for X-box, Wii games yet dont own a console (perhaps i'll win one one day!!!!) and would either give them out as presents or sell on ebay.
If the tickets are too far away i wont enter unless they are open ended dates (ie shows) but even then i could not guarantee that i could make it, so would probably offer them on here£2008 for 2008 member No.4140 -
I hesitate about entering prizes for tickets because even though I would love to go they don't tell you you've won until really short notice and I can't just drop everything. if they gave at least a weeks notice I would be able to go.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

It's such a shame they don't give you more notice on the concert tickets. One of my very few pre-MSE wins was concert tickets from xfm. I got an email a week before the show and picked up my tickets from their offices a couple of days before the concert.
I know they're doing it to stop people selling them on ebay, but I don't see why they can't give you, say 3 days notice and then if you accept put you on the guestlist with a note to say you have to have ID to pick them up. It must be a nightmare for the poor people who are emailing/phoning people hours before the show trying to give them tickets so it would help all around.0 -

The above comment did make me chuckle.... thanks for putting a smile on my face for the nightshift, as I take trains around the country at 100mph
A wide range of comments swinging from left to right. Two people (whom I was not actually refering to) defending themself, one of which regretably proving my point entirely.... No, there are no prizes for guessing. Thats the one attempt at humour out of the way.
It was nice to see that those who could not resist a tirade of abuse took it to Private Messaging, for which I thank you for not subjecting the public to words up to and including the C word.
I actually agree with most of you who have said "concerts are very short notice" and the like... however living in Portsmouth, I do not put in for concerts that want me in Newcastle within 12 hours.
As a closing note, before I go off to play with my big trainset (after all I did "...throw your toys out of your pram...") I think that two comments should be read in conjunction with each other.
"You must also take into account that if tickets are not used, then that promoter may think twice about placing new competitions."
and
"because i didnt want to"
I am sorry, I had to be so blunt with you all to start with and it was made quite clear in the PMs that my presence if I think such things is unwanted. I will stop posting now and merely enter the competitons.

Well, I do agree with the OP. It's a shame that tickets aren't always going to those who will use them, as it does mean that possibly someone else who *could* have gone, has lost their chance.
However, whilst we're on a rant thread, my own (good natured, though) rant is more of an irritated musing.
Why is that that some people's sig strips are stuffed full of competition wins, when I've only had two prizes, and neither of them are particularly brilliant (and yes, I know that I'm lucky to have won two prizes when there are others who have nothing).
Don't get me wrong - I don't begrudge people their prizes. I just wish I knew what the trick was. I enter a good 97% of the competitions that are listed here, so surely the odds aren't equal. (Maybe a mathematican can answer that. I won't be able to understand the answer though, as me 'n maths do NOT get on well together!)0 -

TwistedPsycho
Don't stop posting TwistedPsychoMatters of comping etiquette and whatnot do come up for discussion every now and then. You're as much entitled to your opinion as anyone else on here and I hope differing opinions over one aspect of comping won't spoil the rest of the forum for you or anyone else involved in the discussion. If you get abusive pm's I would just report them and not bother replying, there's no need for it.
