:j well done on changing gas/electric suppliers. Did ours last week and it works out £110 a year cheaper and I get £35 from quidcoDebt at lightbulb moment (Dec 06) £60,502
Debt Jan 11 £18010
70% repaid
Debtfree date: December 2011
Proud to be dealing with our debts0 -
Good news on my challenge so far, I managed to do the weekly shop for £29.86 which is amazing considering my pre lightbulb shops were about £90 a week! I might need some more milk and fruit before next week but that won't cost too much.
Also, I had a new client on Friday and she's just phoned up to book another appointment and an appointment for her mum so feeling quite positive after having a bit of a yuck weekend.
Hope you all have a good dfw week xxJanuary budget

Grrrr just as I was doing so well and this is a very selfish post! Last year I took up kickboxing and I love it. It's a fiver a week and I don't go out drinking etc so I felt that was ok. Today I find out that to go on to the next belt I have to get insured (£28), buy gloves (£30) and buy a head guard (£27.50). This can be bought over the next six weeks but I really don't want to spend the money when that would be nearly £100 off debts. On the other hand I don't want to give it up. What would you do?January budget

Hi LJD. Is there any way you can get the gloves and head guard second hand? There must be plenty of people who take up kickboxing then drop out. Do you have Freecycle where you live? If so, put on a wanted ad. And maybe the Instructor might have know of sources if you had a quiet word in his/her ear. It seems a shame to give it up if it means a lot to you. You were talking of paying your debts off in 6-8 months - how much would you mind if it turned out to be 9 months because of this?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

Thanks both of you. I think you kind of put it into perspective for me. I've got so into the mindset of not spending that I get a bit obsessed! You're right, one extra month won't make a difference. I'm also going to try freecycle as they've come up trumps with things in the past.
Thanks again xxJanuary budget

I agree with the others.... carry on with it..it's something you enjoy....and have put effort into it.....a 'tiny' bit longer paying off the debt won't make 'that' much difference.....don't deny yourself everything!
I remember my bro did kick boxing years ago (or was it thai? is that the same thing?).....I just remember his shins being very sore and very briused and red...put me off anyway.....;)0 -
I agree. It's just like a diet - you won't stick to it if you're too strict with yourself and never have a treat. Yes, you're in debt, but if you can pay it off in 8 months, you're not 'crippled' in debt. Therefore, I'd stick to the maxim of "do I need it, will I use it, can I get it cheaper?", then go ahead. Just remember that next time you want those shoes or whatever, you have to think "I've had my treat."0

Thanks all of you, I def needed someone else to tell me what to do here. My hubby also said that as i've only bought one top in 18 months I should just go for it and consider it my treat. However, I do see it as a challenge to raise the money from 'extra' money. So, I decided the money had to come from new clients, surveys, etc. An hour later a new client books in for two treatments so that's £44 towards my treat. Feel much happier. Thanks again xxJanuary budget
