Yes its the social science one - Introduction to the social sciences.
I'm doing the DB123 - finance course too but thats for "fun" :rotfl: - although it will still count towards a degree.:D This MSE stuff gets in your blood.
The good thing about an Ou degree is that if you get bored you can always diversify into another subject, and the points still count, you can stick with a subject and have a named degree eg social sciences or do lots of different stuff and have an open degree.
You have to be a bit disciplined with it but its a great way to study at your own pace, and at home.

Thought I recognised the code:p (I work in accounts...I am brainwashed with figures and codes:rolleyes: )...oh how sad am I?:o
I did an access course...oooh about 10 years ago now:eek: and I had ideas of doing a psych course then...but finances and other committments took over/put me off.....
Over the years I've thought I'd like to go back to it...but I've ended up doing a semi-professional course for work purposes (Accounting Technician....before Chartered...quite a way before  )...well no...strictly speaking it is a 'professional' course....but knowing some of the people on my course are qualified the same as me gives me no confidence in the qualification cos I know that I knew what I was doing and they didn't...yet they still passed:rolleyes:
I'm at that awkward stage.... should I continue with work quals...or do something I WANT to do...and what is that exactly???
I was thinking of signing up for an open degree...thought I could do what I wanted then....in whatever direction it took me.....then my manager said but that's not 'leading' anywhwere that you can take it with work:rolleyes: ....I do wish I didn't take notice of what other people said:o0 -
sophiesmum wrote:I don't really like the exams either, I always do better with the assessed work.
I wanted a break from exams this year so I picked these two courses specifically because they don't have an exam as such. They do have a timed assignment to be done in a study centre under exam conditions:eek: BUT you are given the subject beforehand to work on your answer. So as long as you prepare well and can then remember what you did it shouldn't be that bad.  Or at least thats what i'm hoping:o
The swedish massage sounds interesting , are you thinking of doing it as a career, or just as an interest.
Glad I didn't have 4 assignments to face over xmas:eek:

I'm not fussed on exams either...but I seem to work better??? with time pressures...everything last minute...what can I say??:o
I've always been the same....I could have months or weeks to do a piece of course work....I'd do it last minute.....and I know that THAT would be better than if I'd started it 'when I was supposed to'?...something about the time pressure that focuses my mind.... I have a tendancy to include FAR TOO MUCH in assignments etc...I figure..put too much in...its easier to take stuff out than add it:D0 -

Maybe it would take you somewhere more interesting though!!!
If I was you I would go for your open degree, and as you say just do what you want in your own time and see where it leads to. There are so many subjects to choose from (dont know if there is any about primates though:rotfl: :rotfl: )
I have really enjoyed the challenge and personal satisfaction, even though sometimes it is hard work. Many employers recognise and respect OU degrees for the very fact that it takes hard work and determination to achieve them whilst you are already dealing with full time work and family committments, can say a lot about a person.

Wow, I wrote that post without even realising:rotfl: :rotfl:
Seriously that is me exactly.
I submitted my last assignment electronically about 25 minutes before the final cut off time at midnight, after having about 6 weeks to complete it.I am the same at work I put pressure on myself and schedule loads of stuff in but it makes me work better than if I have lots of time to do stuff.:o

Have you been reading my other threads..?? lol!!! I would love to do some anthropology type thing...though..as the 'hair advert' says...without the science bit...:o
Trust me...anyone I KNOW heaves such a huge sigh when I mention about ANOTHER chimp/ape programme being on tv...........anyone would think I was obsessed????:rolleyes:0 -
Good luck with it!!
I am up to my ears in OU too if its any consolation (finish in November after 5 years if I last that long!) I asked for an extension on my two TMAs due 12th and 17th today as there is no way I will meet the deadlines. Like sophiesmum, I thrive on the pressure (or at least kid myself I do!)
:eek:Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

It's definitely all about pressure. I've had the date for my OU course for two months and still left it a bit. Saying that, i'm posting it on Monday and it's not due in till Thursday so that's very early by my standards. I have been known to post it through a tutor's door at the last minute on cut off day!
Chrismojam, the good thing with the OU is that there isn't a time scale in terms of how long a degree takes. I started off doing 60 points a year but now if i'm taking a 30 point course I just do that so there's no double whammy of assignments. I started doing a health degree but am now doing an open degree as it means I can pick courses that are going to be more useful to me.
Sophiesmum, i'll be using the sweedish massage for my job. I already do reflexology, indian head massage and other treatments and clients were asking for massage. I keep saying this will be the last holistic course but i've already got my eye on another!
Angelavdavis, good luck with your study. Hope you make your deadlines!January budget

Update
1) Change gas / electricity supplier
2) Set up direct debit for credit card
3) Get up to date with my studies - OU tma 2 x college assignments and OU weekly studying
4) Not spend any money from our bank account (hubbies wages) and use the money I earn to live on.
5) Spring clean my clinic
Done the spring clean now so just need to finish studying and make sure we don't waste money this week! We're off to the theatre this afternoon but it won't cost anything as the tickets were a christmas present, i'm taking the children's christmas chocolate for them to eat, we're going for a meal but it's with vouchers that I had.
It's going to feel so good not studying today! Good luck with any goals you've all set yourself. Have a good weekend xxJanuary budget
