I took delivery of my fantastic ISE10 today. Wow. The controls are easy, the features are outstanding (eg re-opening the door after the programme had started because I'd left an odd sock out! Brilliant) and it works like a dream. It was nice to deal with a local supplier too.

    Thank you everyone.
  • OOOOH Kay, I really want to get mine but trying to hold off as long as possible till I do! My bearings are gradually getting noisier on my current washer.

Having had my marvellous ISE10 washer for nearly a year now (where did that go?) I decided to invest in the matching dryer. I was pleased to see they do a vented one now. I didn't want a condenser type, and that's what put me off buying a dryer at the same time as the washer.
Anyway, my spanking new ISEDV60W vented dryer arrived yesterday :T
First impressions are good - matches the washer nicely, feels very sturdy, door shuts with a 'VW' type clunk. In use, it makes a noise like an industrial dryer, and takes a nice big load (yaay!).
Ordered from the website, like we did the washer. This time, no waiting (yaay again!).
This morning, for my convenience, OH had to take the door off and swap it to open from the other side. Not as straightforward as it appeared - wierd screws, according to hubby, but it's much easier to use that way around. ( If I'd been in when it was delivered, I'd have asked the installation man to do that).
Switched it on for the first time and the room immediately filled with steam - vent hose had come disconnected, so out it had to come, some fiddling at the rear to be done, and back into place.
Anyway, it's all sorted now, and I'm just geting used to it. Will report back soon.

Back to report that the new dryer is every bit as good as I had hoped. I am using the sensing programme on 'normal' dry, which stops the dryer when the load is almost dry, but not bone dry. There is very little creasing (in fact, none at all), and I can dry a big load. It's a huge improvement on my old half size Zanussi dryer - which I have now given away :)

  • Hmm, just read through all this and I may well be looking at an ISE10 as my Asko is sounding decidedly unwell - may be just the bearings but hey it is over 20 years old and moved house with me three times! :)

    Hey all

So glad to stumble on this thread as we are planning our first ever washing machine purchase. I am really impressed by the ISE 5 - the whole philosophy is great and by the sounds of it you are all happy with your ISE 10s.

I just wanted to ask if the ISE 5s are the same quality? Anybody have experience with one? And is it worth shelling out the extra £70 for 5 year warranty instead of 2?

My not-so-sound reasoning was that if they're so good they would go wrong either before the 2 years is up or after the 5 years is up?! LOL!

I would love to have a 10 but it's not an option for us as we have just spent all our money on the house we have bought :o

    Hi Lara,

No, the ISE AW23 is a completely different machine to the 10, there isn't a single shared component between the two machines. ISE are quite open about that.

The AW23 is designed for 2-3000 wash cycles.

The ISE10 range is designed for a minimum of 8000 but actually rated for 12000 cycles use.

As you can imagine, there are significant differences in the quality levels between them, just as there is a significant difference in price but you get a lot more durability for the extra money.

Most manufacturers will avoid the discussion on cycle ratings like the plague, it is an uncomfortable conversation they don't want to have even although they all know the numbers. What you will find is that most cheap machines, sub-£250, are rated for 600-800 cycles and upwards from there but I'm sure most people can do the math on what they're paying for in each price bracket.

Do bear in mind that the "average" UK use is approximately 250 cycles per year but that obviously can vary massively depending on your own personal circumstances. This is why it is impossible to say that any machine should last X years without knowing the machine and the use, but you can offer a guesstimate based on the average figures.

Many young families will do twice the average, easily.

The confusing bit is where you have the "brand" being sold as a premium because of the name or design or because of a special function or fitting. This skews the figures a bit and, unless you know exactly what you're looking at and how to work back the numbers from retail to trade/cost to produce it can be a nightmare to judge what you're actually getting for your money.

A good example is integrated machines (ones that take cupboard doors) as they are much more expensive to produce but, generally speaking, they will use the same innards as a standard machine to reduce cost. The result is a machine no better than a bog standard one that the price is hiked on because you can fit a door on it to make it pretty, to some people at least.

Another is the colour, like black or stainless. Both cost considerably more to produce, so it skews the numbers.

Just want to say I'm still very happy with my ISE10 and matching dryer. I've had the washer over 12 months now, and the dryer just a few months. Have had no issues at all :)

I've just persuaded my BF to purchase the ISE 5 ( AW model ) as the old Candy has packed in. He didn't want the ISE10 and was originally going to purchase a cheap, crap model. But I made him change his mind!

It is arriving on Monday afternoon via local retailer in NW area for £525 including installation and taking the old machine away. I did all the leg work this morning and am pretty impressed that we managed to get this all sorted for Monday.:T:beer:
Will post back in the near future with a quick review.

Thanks again to the guys that offer great advice.

    Hello Kwatt

Another very helpful response, thank you :T

I woud love to go for the 10, but at the moment it's a cashflow problem - with the current mortgage market we have had to put all our money down as a deposit (bar our emergency savings pot).

I will check with Which but think I will go for the ISE5. We do only around 2 washes a week, which is around 100 a year. With the 2-3000 cycles you're quoting for the cheaper ISE that is still a good long life. Also I feel quite strongly that the company itself is worth investing in - I am not an eco-warrior by any means but hate the thought of going through machine after machine. In our rental place they bought absolutely awful machines - we went through 3 in 5 years, and on a 2 wash per week workload that is pretty dire.

Sensemaya, you'll have to let us know how your BF gets on :)
