Wait until the jail sentences get publicised. That will be the measure of how serious the state views looters. The aftermath of the 2001 Braford riots seen some very long prison terms issued, I wonder.....................

Glad you mentioned the Bradford Riots. Some posters seem to think this sort of thing has never happened on GB soil before.

We should have a Labour Corps as National Service and as punishment for crime. We wouldn't want to ruin our fine army by putting these idiots in the uniforms of proud line regiments.

police seem to be better at lifting the rioters in England than they do over here. If that happened here in that scale the police would be sitting in their landrovers worrying what type of grilling the policing board would give them if they arrest someone.....keyword "heavy-handed"

Don't know though, most of them would even be an insult to the MSO Mojos.

They certainly would. The Mojos were very proud men.
  • I agree Pretani - and you have to admire the speed at which they are processing many of those arrested through the magistrates courts. I can't see that happening here either. I understand that sentencing will take longer but the justice system in England does seem much more flexible than ours. I wondered whether the special court sessions were necessitated by the recent ruling on police bail in England. I don't think police bail is much used here with defendants being brought in front of Magistrates for bail hearings instead. Is that the case?

That does seem to be the case. I'm not sure what the criteria is here but the PSNI are certainly more selective in who they lift. Perhaps they only want well dressed prisoners in NI gaols - no scruffy types?
