What's the Northern Irish reaction to the rioting in England?

Have been following several threads in DT and OS regards the rioting in London and now other towns in England. Am wondering what the Northern Irish view to it all is?!
There is no denying it's scary for the people in the areas, and the cost, financial implications for the country as a whole will be devastating especially during the current economic climate.
I think due to our recent history we have a less 'hysterical' reaction than some, it just can't be me?!

Probably about as much interest as most English had about riots here!0

Hmmm....I was watching last night and was thinking 'welcome to Norn Iron' ............0

I dont ever remember looting here over the years, bomb damage sales yes but never theft!0

Its not like rioting over here, its more just wanton destruction.
That would not have lasted so long over here, on the first night the water cannons would have been out, maybe the odd plastic bullet fired and by now the army would have been involved.
Not that I have any personal experience lol:rotfl:0 -

Hmmm...true! How come they can do that here and not there? Wierd....:A0 -
It seems not only do we have control of salt supplies for the UK but water cannon too!!! Do you think we should charge for lending them??
“Water cannon are not approved for use on the mainland by the Home Office,” a spokesman said. “A range of measures is available to the police to tackle disorder and we do not believe water cannon are needed.”
A Scotland Yard spokesman said officers did not have any water cannon. If their use was approved, they would have to be brought over from Northern Ireland.
Oh and does anyone know why they are excluded from mainland? just curious really.0 -
Lets hope they don't approve the use of the water cannon, our local rioters would have fun if they knew it wasn't available here for a few nights
My reaction to the riots in London is that the Met should take some tips from the PSNI on hopw to deal with them, although the PSNI aren't great at dealing with the riots either, but they are better than the GB policeWeight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
After all the budgetry cuts to the Met inc. officers pensions etc... London is now suffering the consequences of a Fluffy Pink police force (Met Sergeants words not mine)
It's comical to think this all started as a "protest" over the shooting of a "family man & pillar of the community" ... who just happened to be a convicted criminal carrying a gun in central London (obviously forgot he had it on him).
The riots now are nothing more than wantant theft & opportunistic criminality by the ASBO generation.
Plastic bullets, rubber bullets, tazers etc... whatever non-deadly force necessary to stop these vermin should be approved immediately, so as when they're caught & concious, they can be put to work tidying the local communities that they destroyed. American style chain gangs should be mandatory for those involved ... make them work for their benefits.
Did anyone else notice that in Croydon, the ransacked Currys, O2, T-Mobile & Boots shops where all nestled between a Watersones & Specsavers that appeared to escape unscathed ... very strange indeed :huh:0
