I think we are too soft on criminals here. There isn't a sufficient deterrent to criminals. I would make prisons so terrible that the thought of them scares the bejesus out of people and they behave. It would also save the tax payers a few pounds if prisons were less comfortable and the prisoners had to do forced labour.

    I sound ancient! I'm not I promise.

I don't think it's fair on anyone to have to have rioting in their town. We may be used to it here (thankfully less so in recent years) but it's a shocking indictment on society when young people are so uncontrollable that one of their forms of leisure is to cause civil disruption. Recreation Rioting is what I called it on another thread. That's a term I've heard the PSNI and MLA's using.

No need for bullets or tear gas. All they need is water cannons full of water with permanent pink dye in it. They won't have difficulty locating the thugs then.:D

In my opinion this is not rioting but pure thuggery. I find it frustrating that (on both sides) its ok to use water cannon and plastic bullets here but its not ok in the UK? How can that be......Bring the troops out and that would stop them.....

I commented on another thread earlier about how we call it recreational rioting over here. I'm going to hazard a guess that next year the rioting will move from Ardoyne and Short Strand towards the City Centre so they can loot Victoria Square.

Actually, what's happening in London and elsewhere isn't rioting, it's just f3ckless vandalism (sorry but MSE determines Father Jacks favourite word to be offensive) with the sole purpose being theft and destruction.

water cannon em lets see ,they pay water rates across the pond .:rotfl:

to be fair I think the english police havent a clue how to deal with a riot .
Yes they have looting which didnt happen here ,but it never would have got to the looting stage here .the riot squad would have dealt with it
Also here we know what we where rioting about .so and so are marching up our road or not marching up our road . We usually have reasons to riot .

Have been following several threads in DT and OS regards the rioting in London and now other towns in England. Am wondering what the Northern Irish view to it all is?!

There is no denying it's scary for the people in the areas, and the cost, financial implications for the country as a whole will be devastating especially during the current economic climate.

I think due to our recent history we have a less 'hysterical' reaction than some, it just can't be me?!

I googled DT and OS and got delerium tremens and ordinance survey and wondered. Tell me what they are, please.
