What's the Northern Irish reaction to the rioting in England?

My personal take on the "civil unrest" in London is one of disbelief! The MPs need to get off their backsides and start doing something proactive & effective. Water cannon can be got...from France, Belgium, Holland if necessary, they don't have to send what we have here there (we might need it here before the summer is over). There is the British army if necessary. I don't understand why the govt is sitting on their hands.
I like the idea of water cannon with pink dye...put a permanent marker on these scum.
I'm also surprised to see that the Met Police have published pictures of looters in a bid to identify them. When the PSNI did that they were forced to stop because it breached some little bar-steward's human rights because they were under age, or for some other equally idiotic reason.0 -
why are riots being discussed on the old style forum . Is it "how to make a petrol bomb " ----old stylearkonite_babe wrote: »DT is discussion time board and OS is Old Style board here on the forum
Hope that clarifies it a wee bit for you!

News overnight suggested the PSNI were sending armoured Land Rovers across the pond. They cannot spare any personnel. The water cannon are being kept here as the Home Secretary in Westminster won't give permission to use them on the mainland.0

Why are they not allowed to use water cannons and/or rubber bullets in the mainland, but they are here?
Is it a case of Northern Ireland rioters being inferior to English rioters, it doesn't matter if the NI rioters get hurt, but we couldn;t touch the poor little English?
I think what this whole episode shows is the Northern Ireland is treated worse then the rest of the UK by the UK Government - but the question is why?
After all, we are all British Citizens (regardless of whether or not we want to acknowledge it), and should all be treated the same!Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -

Westminster has no say in policing here. That's the preserve of Stormont.
The English Home Secretary doesn't want water cannon. Our MLA for Home Affairs does.

That's a very good point.
You have to agree though, it is shocking for people who've never seen this sort of thing before.
Maybe we should send over a few of the boys from the Lower Newtownards Road to give them a hand

Too true. I listened to a couple of little scroats from Manchester being interviewed who had been involved in rioting/looting last night. One of them had little concern about being arrested and even if it did happen a Caution or ASBO was certainly not going to bother him. What sort of message does this convey?I think we are too soft on criminals here. There isn't a sufficient deterrent to criminals.0 -

Send them to the Military Correction Centre in Colchester (The Glasshouse). That'll have their backsides twitching like a rabbit's nose.0
