Any positive experiences switching to EDF energy??

Shock, horror.... Just got an email from EDF. It started:Thank you for your e-mail dated 2 September 2011.
and after apologising for the delay in responding went on to say:Having looked into your account, I can see since sending this e-mail you have spoken to a Customer Service Advisor on 3 September 2011....
So I take back what I've previously said about them not answering emails. Perhaps September contained less than 10 working days. Puts Snail Mail into a new perspective. :rotfl:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I opted for the EDF 2014 price fix after British Gas hiked their prices up last month (along with everyone else).
According to my calculations the EDF fixed tariff was actually less than the new BG variable tariff so assuming prices stay the same or rise then I should be better off.
Mind you the account is not fully live yet as I'm waiting for the electricity to be transferred. My name was initially spelt wrong so I could not log into the account but that got sorted after a 40 minute wait on the phone and an email apology from EDF 10 days after.
I have to say I had not had any problems with BG until I noticed my final gas bill. They had charged me £30 per account for ending my online saver deal early even though OFGEN had stipulated that the charge had to be waived in the light of rising energy prices. I had even called the day before to confirm I would not be charged and of course I was!
To anyone switching from BG make sue you check you have not been charged to leave them, unless you were tied in to a fixed rate deal.
Meanwhile let's see how EDF are and hope my electricity switches over very soon! The final meter reading was last week.0 -

Same thing has happened to other forum members, including myself. Just phone BG and explain and the 2 x £30 charges will be dropped.0 -
Some good news (I think)!
Had an email from my old supplier saying that my final electricity bill is available to view online and, on checking it, the reading is exactly the figure I gave to EDF.:T
Only thing is on the final bill from my old supplier it says don't cancel your direct debit yet as we need to process your refund. Trouble is that I have already cancelled it:o Does this mean that they won't have my bank account details anymore?
Also my contract tracker now say "LIVE":T
So one down, one to go.
I really like seeing a three monthly bill. How do I go about getting this with EDF? Does anyone know?Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
When I left Ovo they put my refund in my bank account even though I'd cancelled the DD so it is possible. Whether they will do so is up to them. They may send you a cheque instead.0

Just enter a reading. That generates a statement. Unfortunately it seems to create a recalculation of your direct debit amount too, no matter how little history of your usage they have.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Thanks,
That sounds like it could be bad if it is a winter reading, the direct debit could rocket. Why can't anything be simple!Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

In view of mine/others experiences with this recalculation "process" I don't intend to enter another meter reading until after Winter if I can get away with it!:D
I'm reading the meters monthly but just using the figures to update my own spreadsheets.:)0 -

I'm probably going to try a similar approach. Given that it took them over a month to answer my last email, I'm not expecting a response to the one I've sent regarding their latest stupid recalculation and adjustment of my DD. Will probably have to phone them before the next payment is due to get the increase removed.
I record my meter readings in my own spreadsheet too, have done on a daily basis since the beginning of 2010. Sad maybe, but provides interesting figures.
For example, following last year's seasonal trends and looking at this year's usage, my current unadjusted DD will be more than enough to cover the cost at the fixed tariff I am currently on. EDF don't have anywhere near the history I have, although they have been fine about putting the DD back to where I initially set it every time they've said they're increasing it. Just so annoying that they do it every month that I give them a reading.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Switched a couple of months ago from Scottish Power and have had no problems so far.
I've been plagued with calls from SP however!0
