I switched from EON to EDF in June and my gas contract is still not live. They are taking DD for elec but not gas. I've phoned them several times regarding this and they have told me it is 'stuck in the system' but should be resolved soon. I asked them what opening reads they have used and they couldn't tell me as they said a bill cannot be produced until both contracts are live. I received a final bill from EON in July but that used estimated readings. I have also emailed EDF but to no avail. I'm concerned that I'm going to be hit with a huge bill when/if they ever sort it out. Anyone have any advice on how I should proceed?0

Unfortunately EDF are a complete shambles and your experience is only too common! Personally I wouldn't bother wasting any more time on the phone or emailing but put in a written complaint to:
Customer Correspondence Team
EDF Energy
FREEPOST RRYZ-BRTT-CBJS
Osprey House
Osprey Road
EXETER
EX2 7WN
It will take them about 3 weeks to reply.
In my experience, a written complaint is always far more effective. Make it clear that you want a written response to your complaint and not a telephone call, so you have a written record of what has passed between you.
If EDF fail to resolve your complaint within 8 weeks, then you can take it to the Energy Ombudsman.
Keep a record of your telephone costs/the time you've spent, etc., so you can ask for compensation for these plus a gesture of goodwill at the end.
I don't think EDF will ever improve their woeful systems until it begins hitting them in the pocket!0 -
Everything seemed to be going well with my switch to EDF. I put in my meter reading for electricity on the change day and it all looked fine.
However, after a week the meter reading disappeared:eek: I phoned EDF (stayed on hold for nearly 25 mins) and was told by the lady who answered that she couldn't see my meter reading either, but if I gave her the figure she would input it manually and it would show up on my online account in an hour or two. Well it is now two days on and it still isn't showing - not impressed.
I put in my gas reading a few days ago (as the change date was a week later than the electricity) and so that will probably disappear soon.
The online contract tracker says that they are still waiting for meter readings, but I have given these so what else can I do?
Beginning to regret switching.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
The debacle continues....
They have adjusted my DD again!
I only joined them in May and this is the fourth time it's been adjusted. Mind you, due to their screw ups, they've only taken 2 payments, plus one I manually made to clear the outstanding balance.
The last time they adjusted it, they said it was because they'd had readings closer than 28 days apart. So I gave a reading on September 1, followed by October 1, and they've still adjusted it!
Email is a waste of time, although you do get the automated response, so you know they've got it.
Better make sure my handsfree set is fully charged. :mad:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. The debacle continues....
No idea what they are playing at, the system was down for most of Saturday and Sunday yet it comes back apparently just as bad. I don't know what "unseen issues" have been addressed (obviously not random review), but the incompetent oval meters are still there.
I think it is perfectly reasonable for a customer to submit monthly reads, however I would say the system is not currently fit to accept customer readings. My "typical" annual consumption is correctly registered and there is little to be learned by further reads. Other than a slightly late "payment start", payments are being collected as agreed.
(Since Jun/July I have had 2 "unsolicited" reviews resulting in incompetent payment calculation)
My own customer position is clear, I will not accept (without Complaint) reviewed Direct Debit without the provision of the calculation which regulations require to be provided and before my first "annual review" date which I have been informed is "April".0 -

Think I'll have to make my position clear to them too.
I've already emailed them and got the usual "We're now looking into your query and will get back to you within 10 working days" response. Might just give them the 10 days before phoning them. Still got time before my "adjusted" DD is due to be taken.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Sorry for the tardy update on my progress with the switch to EDF (I've been on holiday since it was all sorted!) Most things went smoothly and whenever we had to speak to anyone on the phone they were most helpful, but we did have a bit of trouble trying to submit the initial readings as we could never do both gas and electric at the same time! We have now had the letters from Scottish Power saying they owe us a bit (always nice!) and our first DD payments went through end of September to EDF as planned.0

I submitted Elec reading on 22/8, eveything seems OK on that, I have received a final account from Scottish Power. The gas reading is a different matter, I submitted a reading on 31/8 (the date my supply was supposed to start) and since nothing, the account is showing no meter reading and my old Scottish Power account is in limbo. How are others doing?
It appears that SP have rejected my reading and invented one of their own, after contacting EDF (they are not very proactive are they?) they will be following up with SP, not that it makes much difference to me,'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0
