On 6th June I was on-line checking my bank account and found EDF had taken a DD payment,

I gave up at that point

I'm not defending Edf, rather trying to help MSE'rs. There is no excuse for what you describe, partly my own experience and that of other posters, but IME weekday a.m. telephone wait times (6 weeks after your last experience) are now reducing and the customer service staff appear patient and personable.

My advice is simple, *if* you are on a competitive deal, don't cut off your nose to spite your face, try hard to make it work (i.e. save money), but at the same time pursue any unresolved concerns through the complaints procedure.
  • Has anybody else has a problem registering via EDF sign up website (savetodaysavetomorrow) for Fixed S@ver v2

I have signed up twice (3 weeks apart) now got a confirmation email each time but no welcome pack. The 1st time this tracked through the cashback site (but possibly got declined), the 2nd time nothing tracked.

Was concerned that no welcome pack came through each time so rang customers service and no record of my details. I rang up the day after they had finished the Fixed S@ver 2 scheme, however they said as I had got an email they would honour it and signed me up there and then.

Subsequently I now have a welcome pack (which I assume is from the phone call but can't confirm) and probably loss my cashback.

    Anybody had a similar experience?
  • It's not just limited to EDF but there is a cooling off period for making a switch so don't forget that if you start to regret it, you can possibly still call off the transfer of companies.

Also one massively positive thing about EDF is that they don't have a lock in contract period (or didn't used to) so depending on what happens to your billing, you might be able to switch away from them again without incurring any extra charges. Just depends on how much they mess up yr account really. :)

    Hope that helps!

They do, dependent on tariff of course. For example Fixed Saver v2 is a minimum term contract to 30/9/12, and many of the online discount variables will have a minimum contract period too.

While I don't excuse the Edf "woefully untested" billing system, I called this morning to change my bank details and the call was answered after 3 - 4 minutes by a very personable adviser. (confirming my experience of weekdays a.m. as a "good" time)

Of course, the proof is in the eating. I will find out in a few weeks.

I know you won't take it the wrong way, but recording totally routine contact with a utility company as a positive, shows how far below the normal standards this had reached.:)

Applied to EDF on 2 Aug.

Everything appears to be progressing, the status page of the gas account shows "contract being finalised"

The electricity one has gone beyond that and now shows contract completed, with a further item now saying opening meter reading required. I have had no emails or message on "My Account" requesting me to submit a reading. So to those of you who have been through this do I submit my reading now?

No idea. My experience was that MyAccount was normally 10 days behind. You are reporting MyAccount is now ahead of the game. Could this be progress?:D

I adopt a practice of doing what the system permits. So if there is a box for a reading enter a reading. And make sure you take a screen print.
  • At some point you will receive separate communications either by email (asking you to look at Your Messages online) or by letter. These will give you your live dates for gas or electric. The gas request is normally 7/10 days later the electric request.

The live date is the date you need to submit your meter reading which then gets passed by EDF to your original supplier and is used as the closing reading with them for final billing and becomes the opening reading with EDF.

I signed up 4th Aug,and my account is showing the same status....im still confused tho,do we do as macman and jalexa have advised and put meter reading in Now,or as youravinalarrrf suggests and wait until further communication?....since this isnt an actual online account(or is it??the BG account I transferred to is purely online, but i think EDF fix2014 is just a traditional account,is that correct,I donr NEED to manage it all online?)..anyhow,since im thinking its not an online account, maybe i should wait until i get a letter or something,The 3 messages on the My Account are contradictory,...dunno if this will copy properly.
