Morning all
I have had a rough two days, children are here, eldest’s Birthday Indian takeaway as I had promised and the left over Christmas chocolate remade is appearanceBut I still had a fairly good week on the whole.
Welcome to HalibutMadness, yes been male and under 20 makes you a minority, but the ladies are friendly and if your nice they might let you become an honorary lady
I have not really seen a thread about getting fitter. I joined a gym last year and struggled for a few weeks in spite of, of because of, playing rugby, in the front row since 11 (Im 38 now) and having previously lost alot of weight about 4 years ago, till a knee injury and a job that didnt allow much time at home let alone the gym allowed me to ruin things.
Anyway depending on your level of fitness, dont go mad, take it easy and always look to improve on a constant and consistent basis, I make notes. When I started my aim was to work until I was so breathless I couldnt have a conversation, but not so breathless as your going to fall over. Make sure you buy some quality trainers, I use cross-trainer type, they give me good support on the ankle.
I had a minor knee operation in November and so have now added swimming to my resume, aiming to do at least five sessions of gym or swim a week. I also do aquacise, but I guess the very mention of that word stuck fear into your heart :rotfl:
Hope it helps.Proud Member of the Lose Weight Thread on I Wanna..................

is batchelors savoury rice free on green then consultant? I like the sound of that! It's great to see everyone being really positive and getting back into the swing of things after Christmas. I don't have enough confidence to 'sign up' for the lose half a stone before feb 5 thing but I think a lot of people will make it.
Delly, hope you're feeling better soon. And Rachel, you say you aren't 'creative' but it's surprising what you find you are good at if you have a go. I dabbled in a bit of cross stitching in my early teens and then never did anything else. Since I took up medieval re-enactment I have become a fairly competent seamstress (hem hem and all that) and make most of my own medieval clothes. Theres quite a lot of adjacent crafts related to it - one of my favourites is braid making which is remarkably soothing, can be done in front of the telly or on the train and makes you popular with young female relatives for making friendship bracelets. This website here http://www.fitchfindings.co.uk/reenact.html sells what's called a lucet plus instructions. It's kind of like french knitting and you can produce some really pretty braids with it. If you get really hooked theres a book out at http://takvbowes.et-tu.com/ which is a translation of a fifteenth century braiding manual. These are absolutely gorgeous but a more complicated, some of them need more than one person! I do a fair bit of braiding as it's fab for keeping your hands busy and keeping your face out of the fridge. My latest toy is a pyrography pen which is like a soldering iron for burning patterns on wood or leather - just draw on the surface with a pencil and follow it with the iron and it's a lot more fun than it sounds honestly! Not so practical for the train though! sorry for the long rambling post everyone, hope you're all having a good weekend!0 -
Hello all, Rachel the curry was really lovely so pleased with my first attempt. It had a lot of apply and raisins in it which made it really nice. Would recommend getting one especially if it less than £9.
Was good yesterday apart from a bar of chocolat and then decided to go to the pub after the curry so had 4 glasses of red wine in the end now up to my 7 for the week. Really really bad.
Well next week is another week. Take care allSave £12k in 25 No 49

Katie -those hobbies sound great - where do you find the time?! I'd give the 7lb by 5th a Feb a bash anyway - noone is going to beat you if you dont make it - its all just a bit of a laugh and motivation at the same time. I, for one, haven't a cats chance in hell of losing 7lbs in the next few weeks. My body refuses to let go of those lbs :rotfl:
So the birthday went well then Suggs! Don't get too annoyed about it, its so hard with all the temptations left in the house at the minute. I am really struggling with it. I really do have to go cold turkey with chocolate again, which is !!!!!! really since I had completely gone off it.
Hoping to take kids swimming this afternoon, didn't make it yesterday. OH took to buring stuff in the garden and we were afraid to go near him because if it wasn't nailed down it was burnt!!!
Consultant you have put me in the mood for fried rice for lunch. I have a pouch of rice that I got last night in Asda for £1 - its the one you fire into the microwave for 2mins - so I am off to check the syn value and may have it with an egg "fried" through it. Thanks for the idea.
Tallgirl The curry sounds fab - do you have a recipe that you could post on the recipe collection? When I get this slow cooker I am going to need them!!
Weigh in tomorrow night. I am determined to stay. I haven't stayed at class for a while now, since my mum broke her wrist and stopped going with me actually. OH is supposed to be off (although that never means anything, he is normally on 24hr call!!) so hopefully he can keep kids and I can stay for IMAGE therapy. I am thinking of going to the next consultant opportunity event to hear about it so want to hear when the next one is.0 -
hi thanks for the replies. I think i wont bother buying those crispbreads like scan bran in holland and barratt as they are really expensive but thank you to those that helped anyway.
I have another question if thats ok?
Can i buy the slimming world recipie and free branded foods books online at all?
I have had a look through the website but i cant find any books for sale anywhere. Do you need to be a member to access those pages?
I hope not as i really want to replace some of my books as mine are a few years old now and would like some updated versions. (refuse to pay the prices they are selling for on ebay! as is silly money really)
Oh and Consultant..... I too had sin fee (on green day)special fried rice last night and loads of it. I fried off some onion and garlic in a pan with fry light then added peppers, sweetcorn and courgette, chinese five spice and then added cooked rice and 1 egg . It was lovely and i will definatly be making again and my 9 year old daughter liked it too which is useful.

OH ran 4 miles yesterday. I didn't so I feel bad already. But yesterday I bought the hotpants workout dvd (cost me £1.23 cos of a £5 amazon voucher from lightspeed) and I'm looking forward to that arriving.
I'm going off to do some yoga now.
I think once I start noticing a difference in how I look I'll become more motivated.
Can someone please give me an overview of the slimming world rules? I think it would be ideal for OH and myself as we have pretty big appetites and are always hungry.
Have a good (and healthy) day0 -
Hello again!
Just got back from my first swimming session with the disability group and can thoroughly recommend it to anyone! Haven't had so much fun in ages. I had a Downs Syndrome lady called Sarah for the first hour and then a physically disabled lady called Margaret for the second hour. Not overly physically taxing but moving in the pool the whole time and more importantly a good laugh. Really glad I went now! This is now one of my new hobbies.
However I am now like a wrinkled prune and feel so clean from the chlorine I squeak!
Glad the birthday went well Suggs!
Thanks to Katie for all of the suggestions - I may try something a cit creative - I suppose if it turns out badly it'll be something to laugh at in years to come!
I'm absolutely starving now so I'm off to raid the cupboards - it'll have to be something quick though as I can't wait. Think diet....Think Diet.... THINK DIET!!!!0 -
Birthday went really well thanks Honey she was nicely spoilt. I had a Chicken piaza in the end and some veg jalfrezi, eldest coped with a madras. There was 3 kormas a buhna and nuggets and chips as well at the table that night :j Just cashews, peanuts and some thai chilli crisps left in the house now.
Im off swimming too later, once back from dropping the kids off home.
Got a 1 to 1 review at work next Monday, so I will be a bag of nerves for the next week, almost a year to the day since losing my job!Proud Member of the Lose Weight Thread on I Wanna..................
