    morning :hello:

a good start EDIMEW and welcome!

had a lovely dinner yesterday of a little piece of beef, lots of potatos and green beens [yummmmmmy] :D
and i ended the day with only (!) 4 jaffacakes

for lunch we'll be having the rest of the beef soup and dinner will be HM burgers

no plans for the weekend. but i guess we should keep ourselves busy somehow that might keep us from [STRIKE]stuffing[/STRIKE] slowly filling up :D
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work ;)

Edimew there's no need for you to cut the lager out completely! You need to consider if you can bear the thought of never having any again  If that idea fills you with horror, then you won't stick to your diet if you cut it right out. Could you not allow yourself to have some on certain nights only and have it in ½ pint glasses so you feel as though you're having twice as much (if you see what I mean). Cutting something out that you really enjoy is a shame when cutting down would do (if you have the self-control).

Thanks for being so helpful. I see what you're saying and as I'm cutting down gradually so maybe I won't cut it out all together although I would like to.

Take last night 3 slimline g&t's instead of 3 pints that's a hell of a difference. Not sure about the syn values but in calories that's a saving of about 420

What I'm doing at the moment is that when I'm in a bar I tell my self that first two drinks will be a spirit and slimline mixer after that I can have a lager if I want.
This seems to work in two ways.
    1. I realise it's not exactly torture and not feeling bloated and nipping to the loo every 5 minutes isn't exactly a bad thing
    2. The people I'm with see me as a g&t drinker so will assume that's what I want for the next drink and won't even suggest I have a pint.

Well done Edimew, the g&t is definately a lower syn alternative to lager. Spirits themselves arent to high in syns and as long as you stick to slimline/diet drinks they are free with it! Easier said than done (trust me, I've tried) but why not try an alternate your alcoholic drinks with water. Helps the hangover too - or so I am told :D

Madauri - have a great holiday - where is it you are off to again, with some many posts on the thread recently I can't keep up! The ice skating sounds like great fun.

Hoping to have a good day today, although the chocolate temptations are here (as oppose to being in work when they aren't). Just filled up on a bowl of porridge and have a cup of hot water and lemon atm.

The grapes in the fridge is a great idea, I do that too. I also bought small clemtines and am trying to reach for them instead of biscuits.

Anyone got any nice plans for the weekend

    35 ml gin = 4 syns = a bottle of Bud

Therefore I wasn't quite seeing a reason to change lager for another alcohol (me not being much of a drinker). So I did a little research.
    Gin, 40% Volume

    Calories in 100ml of gin:
    Calories
    222.0kcal
    Carbohydrate
    0.0g
    Protein
    0.3g
    Fat
    0.0g
    Fibre
    0.0g
    Alcohol
    31.7g

Calories in a shot of Gin (25ml): 56
    Lager, Stella Artois

    Calories in 100ml of lager:
    Calories
    40.3kcal
    Carbohydrate
    2.9g
    Protein
    0.3g
    Fat
    0.0g
    Fibre
    0.0g
    Alcohol
    1.5g

Calories in a can (550ml) of lager: 221

Which gives us the equation that 1 lager = 22 gins in terms of quantity,
But when it’s about calories, 1 lager = 4 gins

I was thinking I don’t see the point in such substitution, since gin’s calorific contents is so superior to that of lager… Then again, I seriously doubt you can drink 22 gins in one night. So as long as you drink just four G&T’s, you’re having similar results to drinking one bottle of lager.

I found the tables in this useful page: http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/calories/calorie_counter/alcohol.htm
Any more thoughts about this please?

honey, it's Nice. It's definitely going to be nice.
I'll be back next weekend, let's see if I can manage to read all those posts!
And yeah, skating is great. One of the most energy-spending sports, which can be done quite effortlessly. And I find it very relaxing.

Hello all - have a great holiday Madauri!

Got up earlyish today and went for a 45 min walk the dog before the rain started, then popped into town to go to the post office and ended up buying what seems like loads of stuff but actually only came to about 17 quid.

Farm Foods are doing cans of pop (Diet Pepsi, diet Tango, 7Up Free etc) for 5 for a quid! Got 10 as I couldn't lug anymore back to the car. Quite good value as I drink lots of cans of diet coke usually (free on SW but probably not the best thing for you) and the machine in work now costs 60p for just 1 can! Bargain in my book. Thought it may help those also afflicted with a caffeine addiction like me!

The ASDA man came yesterday so my cupboards and freezer are now filled with tons of nice good for you stuff - there's still a little bit of chocolate left (OH won't let me give it away) but I'm trying hard to ignore it. I had a look at the SW syns for 1 Cadburys Hero last night as he was stuffing his face and just 1 is 2.5 syns! Who can stop at one? Even worse - a Ferrero Rocher (also being scoffed by OH) is 3.5 syns!! I very virtuously ignored him and had some sugarfree stewed apple instead ( also has syns but not anywhere as bad as the chocs)

    See you later
    Rachel.
  • Morning all

So many posts to read after the quiet spell before Christmas.

Hello to all the new people to the list.

I have had 4 days without coming off my healthy eating plan (ok, it is the WW No Count, but if I think I am on a diet I will think about food all the time). I have always loved brussel sprouts, but have now developed a thing about Tesco's brussel sprouts as they are much sweeter than any others I have found, even the ones sold from the farm shop. I'm eating them raw and cooked, so I am sure that I will turn green soon. My walking has dropped off a lot the last couple of days due to one of my dogs having a case of "swimmers ear". I managed 5 miles yesterday, but am aiming to get back to 9 miles today. Suggs you are an inspiration with your exercise, I must start using my exercise bike!

My New Years resolution of giving up red meat is still going strong. My skinny American Football playing son has stopped eating it too after watching the programme where one of our athletes Euan (can't remember his surname) starting eating red meat instead of his normal white meat. It was only for a short while, but he piled on the inches and was unable to train fully. My 'No coffee' resolution is not working. I only have 2/3 cups a day but I want to quit drinking it. I managed on just one cup yesterday and have just bought myself some foul coffee (my psychologist son's idea) and I couldn't even finish the cup!

I use the scales every morning as it reminds me to keep focused and stops me eating late at night.

Consultant you can get fish quite cheaply from Morrisons if you go about an hour before they close as they reduce goods then if the "sell by" date is coming to its date. It states on the packaging if it can be frozen. The pies seem to go straight away but the fish is always there:D
