    hi all
my first day on sw was a bit confusing, need to read books properly
i decided to have a green day and made veg soup but used my healthy option of bread and cereal before lunch and was left eating loads of fruit to fill up on and then after work had soup again but was still hungry so had cereal/cheese & crackers.. and used all 10 syns
just felt the need to nibble all day and was amazed how much i craved for chocolate
i never usually eat it but had loads over xmas so must still be in my system
i know i could have had much more better choice so am going to shops today to stock up
    trying red day today
    love mrs ms

Hi Mrs MS - I really felt for you when I read your post, because it reminded me of when I first started SW, I didn't know what to eat and ended up eating the wrong things, but not enough of them, so I felt really hungry.

My advice would be to really get to grips with free food, as that is what you need to eat most of, and make sure you have plenty of them in your fridge and cupboards. On a green day, you can eat as much pasta, rice and potatoes as you like, as well as eggs and unlimited fruit and vegetables. On a red day, carbs are limited, but you can eat loads of lean meat and fish.

Most traditional meals can be adapted to suit SW - there are examples of a roast dinner and spaghetti bolognese in the books, but many meals can be adapted. If you love to fill up with lots of mashed potatoes, you can use a healthy extra for the meat and have a traditional meat and two veg dinner.

I've also found that I've changed the way I eat - I often have green days when I eat no meat at all and I've got a number of recipes for really filling and satisfying meals that don't include meat, or include Quorn as a substitute for meat. Some of the recipes are on the recipe thread - there's a link to it in post#1.

Feel free to post any questions about free foods and syns on here. :)

Hi and welcome to all the new posters - I don't remember there being this many last January - it's great!!

Edimew, sadly there is nothing for it but to bite the bullet and cut back drastically on the lager. I'm sure you already know that anyway, but only you can do it. You've done so well stopping smoking and cutting out crisps that you obviously have strong will-power. Are you going to be following a specific plan or just cutting back. The reason I ask is that on SW premium lagers can be as much as 8 syns for a 330ml bottle - and you're only allowed 15 syns a day, but the alcohol-free ones are much lower of course.

Bindiboo passing on the SW password on a public forum is a definite no-no I'm afraid - the board could be closed down, so it's not worth the risk.

Tazzababe so you're 18 stone now, in eight months you could have lost 5 or 6 of those stones easily, and eat good food all the way.
I try not to push SW but for anyone with a huge appetite (moi!!) there's nothing better , in my opinion. If you're a lover of carbs, jacket potatoes, baked beans, pasta and rice, it's paradise. Yesterday for tea I had SW chips (yes chips, and a plateful at that), eggs and beans and when I finally pushed the plate away I was stuffed - that's the way to diet :T
I do think though, that rather than wait till Monday, you should dispose of the Christmas leftovers and start today (or at least tomorrow). It shows a more determined attitude and a commitment to doing it properly this time.

MrsMS it can be confusing at first, but if you read the book from cover to cover I'm sure it'll only take you a few days to crack it :D . Could you have a free food breakfast which would leave you with HEBs for later in the day. I often have about 4 tablespoons of plain couscous (make up by covering with boiling water and leaving to stand for 5 or 10 mins) then mix in a Mullerlight and some chopped fruit. It makes a massive bowlful which keeps me full till lunchtime and is completely free on Green. For a red day you could have a plate of lean bacon, Quorn sausage, eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes - all free and no HEBs!!!

Plumpie large portions are not a problem at all (see above) but choosing the right things can be. As you have so rightly pointed out, planning is the key to it. Planning the shopping and the cooking makes all the difference. I love my slow-cooker for meals chucked together in the mornings (takes 10 mins max) and all ready to eat and smelling gorgeous when we walk through the door at night.

Rachel that last ½stone can be a pig to shift. The best advice I can give is to change your eating habits completely. If you regularly have the same thing for breakfast for instance, have something different. Sometimes it can be enough to get the metabolism revved up for that final push.

Right all, got to go to work now. Have a good afternoon :D
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

    Hi

Would like to join the 2lb club from monday too. Want to get down to a healthy BMI again (25lbs) but 1/2stone by Feb would be fantastic.

Weaknesses - cheese and wine. Will be back excercising at gym from next week.

I buy slimming world magazine regularly as I love the recipes. I attended classes years ago and i know it's a great system but unfortunately there are no classes near me at the moment so i'm trying to go it alone. Although I'm hoping this thread will be a help. I'm sure it will.

I've tried cutting lager right out, substituting more syn friendly vodka and slim line tonics, but I love the taste and the quantity. (I like big drinks, when I drink tea it's from a giant mug and when I drink water I always have it in a pint glass/0.5 lite bottle.)

Anyway I've decided to wean myself off it by setting a weekly allowance and reducing it each week. This is going really well so far (4 weeks in 4 to go)Once I've done that I'll have a look at the rest of my diet. Which is actually quite good so I suspect this will make a big difference.

Edimew it sounds like we have the same crawings when it comes to booze. I love larger too but luckily I do not like English Draft Larger so I am quite happy not to have it here. However when I go home to Denmark I love there larger and it is the same in Spain etc etc.
I have switched to white wine which I know is just as bad but at least I cannot drink the same amount as I would if it was beers. I like pints too.
We very very often have a bottle of white wine with dinner and this has got to stop so my max alcohol is now 7 glasses a week. They are big glasses but I have to start somewhere. This is only my first week so if you want a cutdownonboozebuddy just let me know.
Consultant & Lois your answers just makes so much sense I really feel like I should try the Slimming World Diet. My friend has the book maybe I should try to cook something from it. Just got my new slowcooker so that would be ideal. Any idea as to what is easy to do as a first go. I have some nice slices of braising steak in the freezer.

  • Can I join please? Would love to lose half a stone by 5th Feb, especially as I managed to put on 5 lbs over Christmas!

I've recently changed jobs, from 12-14 hour shifs walking around all day (which was lucky as I got free Pizza Hut and Burger King :p ) to 12 hour shifts doing nothing (actually quite literally) so metabolism has had a bit of a shock. Also where I work now is nearer so instead of a half hour cycle it's a 15 minute walk (or usually a 10 minute run!).

Did so much family visiting over Christmas got properly sick of rich food so have been detoxing on salads for lunch; want to make time to have home cooked suppers and a proper breakfast rather than a cereal bar mid morning and sweets throughout the day!

Oh and need to drag myself to the gym too

Now for the facts: am 5'7'' and 11stone 5lb (of which at least 10stone is my tummy :rotfl: ) and I guess ideally I'd like to be 10stone - or at least a size 12 :D

Won't be joining a club as don't have time but will be checking out the recipes mentioned on this thread - in fact off to study them now!

PS when's the most reliable time to weigh yourself? I find there's quite a difference between morning and evening...

PPS sorry for the very long post! (mememe :o )

Tallgirl -where did you get the slow cooker - any bargains to be had, I am on the look out too!
  • Well a bit more controlled so far today, although the chocs episode was in the evening yesterday so fingers crossed I can avoid that again. DD is off out to a party this evening so after I do the taxi duty I will be in on my own again but have a few chores to do (exciting Friday evening for me - not!) dealing with the cleaning up after the decorations have come down, so hopefully that will be keep me on the straight and narrow. Will be having a proper supper shortly with DD so that should keep the cravings at bay.

I did have a small piece of cake at work today but only grabbed a banana for breakfast (slept in so it was all I had chance to get) so reckoned that would be ok. I know that's not the nutritious way to do it but if I deprive myself I tend to binge.

Had third of a tub low fat hoummous for lunch with 4 mini pittas, raw carrots and tomatoes, and a couple of satsumas, so that was ok. Chicken for supper so if I can control myself the rest of the evening I should be ok!

Hope the rest of you are doing ok - reading the threads on the board, knowing there are plenty of other people out there are in the same boat, and the support available is really helping. Thanks
Proud to be dealing with my debts
