    Thoughts, or experience anyone?

Had problems accessing MSE this week so only just seen the above post...

I lost a couple of stone and completely changed my body shape through watching what I ate and alot of exercise, including working with a personal trainer. It can be demoralising not seeing the change on the scales but trust me, from personal experience the weights really make a difference to your body shape. I found my weight didn't drop as much as I expected to start with but my clothes felt much looser. My weight loss caught up, and it was obvious that my metabolism had been boosted. My gym has the scales which measure body fat and muscle and that showed more of my weight was made up of muscle. Try and do the cardio and weights for best results.

In our defence we didn't have anything else with it but I think we really are just greedy wotsits! I think my boss is trying to sabotage my diet as she bought me 'the gastropub cookbook' for my birthday and it's just all cream and butter. There's an interesting one tha might adapt though - a shepherds pie that uses the meat off braised lamb shanks instead of mince.

Thanks - It's because we're all greedy wotsits that gets us into these fixes ;) Is your boss slim or like us? Either way she could be sabotaging your attempt to slim so that she doesn't have competition or has company because she can't do it :p but I must admit that that shepherds pie sounds good - let me know if it turns out ok.

Re the fascinator - I've got a picture of deeley boppers in my head, I really must get out more
I wish that I could be the oldest AND wisest....sadly it's not the latter :p but my time will come _party_ wooooh hoooh! Beware!!!!!!!

On the plus side I saw the physio last night and after some deep tissue massage for some ligament tethering I got the all clear to start playing rugby again Honey how is you OH doing after with his knee?
He's on the mend thank you Suggs, he started physio this week and she has started him on the bike and cross trainer at the gym to strengthen up his knee. Its still sore (well he moans enough about it :rotfl:) Little miss patient is not my name :D

Picked up the kids from school and went out for the afternoon with my mum. Never again. DD was hyper. She broke the sign outside Thomas Cook by climbing through it, shook hands with a dummy in M&S and said "how do you do" - then its hand fell off! ,lifted the biggest pair of knickers in the world off the rail in M&S and shouted - "you'd have to have a really huge bum to wear these!". All this amongst other "naughty" things - Mum and DS thought it was hilarious - it would have been funny if she wasn't mine  Kids, eh?!!:rotfl:

Katie and Ice - someone told me about a SW version of pizza. You make the base with Smash potato (free on green days I am told). Make it with a little boiling water but to a thick consistency - roll it onto a nonstick tray and add your toppings etc.. Depending on what you have on it, you could have a totally free green meal. Funny you were talking about pizzas, I bought the smash to try and make it while I was out. Going to try it tomorrow, will report back.

Petrichor do not (repeat, do not) get on the scales midweek. Far from motivating you it usually has the opposite effect. Give yourself the full week, or if you're very brave, a fortnight, between weigh-ins and you will be much more likely to see a good result. Don't forget to measure yourself too, seeing the inches going down is a boost!.

Yes a fascinator (well mine) is a bunch of tiny feathers on a comb, which can be worn instead of a hat - very pretty and very feminine, as KatiePC says.

KatiePC, most of the WW pizzas work out at about 9 syns per 100gms, though I can't tell you what they taste like. Happily pizza is not a thing I crave at all.

Here's the recipe for the potato pizza - I made one and took it into group and it went down very well. I'll post it in the recipes list too.

    Pizza base
    Packet instant mash
    Fry Light

    Tomato Topping
    ½ Large Tin Chopped Tomatoes
    1 Small onion, chopped
    Some Passata
    Oregano
    ! Pinch of Sweetener
    Salt and Pepper

    Other toppings
28g per person Cheddar Cheese, grated (Healthy Extra)
Ideas: sliced mushrooms, sweetcorn, peppers, onions etc.

    • Preheat the oven to Gas 6
    • Spray a flat baking tray with Fry Light.
    • Make the mash and spread thinly onto the baking tray and spray again with Fry Light to cover the pizza base. Bake until the base starts to turn brown and crispy – this may take a while.
    • Meanwhile make the tomato sauce. In a non-stick frying pan add all of the tomato topping ingredients and cook on a fairly high heat. Add more Passata if the mixture dries out. The mixture does need to be fairly thick though and the onions must be cooked.
    • Spread this on top of the base.
    • Add your choice of toppings. Spray again with Fry Light™ and bake for 5-10 minutes – until everything has cooked
    • Sprinkle the cheese on top and bake until the cheese has melted.
    • Serve sliced.

Honey my husband just came in to see why I shouted and it was with laughter at your DDs antics.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

for dinner i was good though and had SW bean chilli with rice :)

OH dared to say that he gets fed up with rice here and rice there (i love rice :D) - so i might just not bother for him anymore (him losing weight that is) and just cook him those greasy roast potatos or oily vegetables [evil icon]

 but i want him to lose weigh too :D

    Hi

Congrats to all who are having a good week, I thought I was having a brill week but I got on the scales this morning (I usually just do this on Monday only) and found that I am exactly the same as I was last Monday! I have been so good I thought a midweek weigh in would inspire me further over the weekend. Does anyone else check on their progress between weekly weigh-ins and have had this happen? I feel that I'll have to nearly starve myself over the weekend now.

Hi Petrichor - I did exactly the same thing and really wished I hadn't. I've spent the whole day feeling really fed up and planning what I was going to binge on tonight! (I wonder if thinking about fattening foods actually makes you gain weight... )

So you can imagine my anger and frustration when looking for swede and carrot mash on the SW syns online to find it quoted as 32.5 syns on a green day  As 98% of the ingredients are free foods I can only think that the website is wrong. When I put the nutritional information into the syns calculator it came up as 4 syns, which was much better.

My advice would be NOT to starve yourself, but to carry on sticking to it 100%. And don't go bingeing either (I only thought about it, I haven't done it) by the time Monday comes, or whenever you weigh in, you may still get a pleasant surprise.

Have a good weekend - and if nothing else remember that it's better to maintain than to gain.

  • Hi everyone,

The first week of my new healthy eating is nearly over and at work I have been really good! I managed not to eat any of the extra lunches all week exept for yesterday when I had some Rhubarb crumble and custard :p

I have been drinking 3/4 litre of water at work every day and am managing not to snack as much as I used to. It has been hard but I hope when I weigh myself on sunday I will have lost a pound or too if not then I'll try harder next week. :)

I hope everyone has a good weekend

Hi PiixxySu - Burger King eh, not a whopper by any chance? I used to love them and always convinced myself they can't be that bad, they're full of salad - I probably don't need to tell you how many syns they are, but just in case you don't know, a basic whopper is 31 syns, a whopper with cheese is 35 syns.

Your husband can still have roast potatoes - as many as he likes on a green day - and he'll soon become accustomed to the taste of the potato instead of the fat. My DH now prefers SW roasties to 'proper' ones. To do them, par boil the potatoes for about 5 mins, then drain them and give them a good shake to rough up the edges. Spray a baking tray with FryLight, add the drained potatoes, then fry them with FryLight and bake for 30-50 minutes.

    Day One tomorrow? :D
