  • Have you all seen the free 1 month trial to the health and diet website https://www.dietfreedom.co.uk that Martin posted on the Freebie section? I am type 2 diabetic, 3 stone to lose and need to get serious about it now at 43! I joined on Sunday - no credit cards asked for which is nice. Have already lost 5 pounds so it seeems to be working for me. You just go on the webiste and enter the code DF1EM, click verify, enter your name etc and they send you your UN and PW.

Their main dietician is Nigel Denby who has been appearing as one of the experts on the BBC Truth About Food if anyone has been watching it?

Just thought it may be of interest. It is based on the GL glyceamic load of your diet which is a more effective step on from the GI and is great for balancing blood sugars, weight loss and anything hormonal like PCOS / PMS.

I'll go for a 5lb loss by the end of Feb. I'm feeling optimistic and also it will force me to take more exercise which I'm not doing enough of at the moment.

A colleague of mine has just started Atkins...apparently she did it before her wedding, lost 4 stone, had a baby and put it all back on again. I really want to suggest WW or SW or something that is actually sustainable and where she's get some support (no one else here is on it nor is her OH) but don't feel I know her well enough. (It's a touchy subject afterall.)

Well I've been ill since Monday evening. Back at work. Just slowly getting my appetite back. Back at work but have eaten some meals that resemble the portion size of an extremely skinny person. Feeling very tired and due to my main intake being tea and toast, have taken to half a sugar in my tea to keep me going - not all the time though. Hopefully trying that one from time to time will help longer term with my mid afternoon snack cravings at work. Don't seem to have lost any weight on the scales even though my jeans are looser and my belt has to be done up on the next notch!

Sure my appetite will be back to normal tomorrow but will try hard not to give in to any snack cravings and just stick mostly to meals and fruit. :o

def me for the 5 lb loss, I have been really suffering from despair this week:D no not to cheat but to give up as I cannot seem to muster anymore enthusiasm for it;)

I decided I needed to take myself in hand and have been upstairs for the last 2 hours trying on every piece of clothing I own and lots of them have some give in them now so that has lifted my spirits, the thing is I would have thought by now I would have gone down a size but no, not yet and that is dragging me down:eek:

I AM really loosing the point to all this but the clothes try on has kept me happy for a bit so slowly slowly catch monkey as they say:D

    Hi All,

Have had a mad busy week and not been able to get on much. Went to class last night and put on 1lb  Have been feeling pretty fed up about it recently. I seem to be doing all the right things, but not getting the results. In a bit of a state of Limbo at the mo, and not quite sure how I'm feeling aout it, but I have 4 weeks left on my countdown, so I'm going to see how it goes for that 4 weeks. Put me down for the 5lb challenge, it might give me a bit of the motivation that seems to have disappeared.

    Hi

    Just a tad confused (doesn't take much :p ) regarding the 5lb challenge :

Is it 5lb by 26/2 or 5/3 and does this weeks (ie 5/2) loss count?

Either way put me down for it please Lois.

    Thanks
I wish that I could be the oldest AND wisest....sadly it's not the latter :p but my time will come _party_ wooooh hoooh! Beware!!!!!!!
  • awwww, we all seem a bit down lately. I'm yoyo-ing a lot lately, since the beginning of december to be honest. I'm slightly frightened of the lose weight challenges as i get really down when i don't make it. Does anyone fancy a 5 a day challenge? That must be good on whatever diet you are doing! I'm going to start from monday as I do the food shopping at the weekend.

I also have a question for SW peeps - I've got a fab recipe for a shepherds pie that involves slow cooking lamb shanks in bovril then shredding all the meat off the bone. I pick off all the fat on the meat but there's probably a fair bit gone into the gravy. Is there a rule of thumb for working out a syn value for it? I treat the lamb as a HEB so thats 85g of lamb. The syns online says 28g of lamb roasted without fat is 1 syn on red so should i just multiply that up? help!

If you were making it in advance, you could leave the gravy in the fridge overnight and then skim the fat off the top? But in answer to figuring out the syn value - no idea - sorry!
