Help. We are trying to go from Worcester to Glasgow for a long weekend sometime this spring, but the cheapest fares we can find are over £110 smackeroos. We've tried splitting the journey, eg worcs to brum, brum to preston, preston to glasgow, and cant find any cheaper journey. Any ideas anyone, please?
I hope 'we' means the two of you but had a quick look and the cheapest tickets are £12.50 Advance Single each, but these are like gold dust but there are lots of £22 Advance Singles each but you do have to look for a date a few weeks in advance. This would give a total fare of £88 for you journey for the both of you return. Use this website to see when the Cheap Advance Tickets are released so that you can get them before they sellout.
Virgin Trains Book in Advance
You could try this for a Split (used 2 random dates in March) you would need to get the Advance Tickets from Megatrain.com you can't get them from anywhere else
Worcester to Birmingham New Street off peak Return £24.80
Birmingham NS to Glasgow Central 17:20 £6 MegaTrain Advance Single
Glasgow Central to Birmingham NS 17:40 £6 Megatrain Advance Single
Birmingham NS to Worcester off peak Return £0
Total £36.80 return for the both of youWhoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
Hi, have recently grabbed a bargain.
2 adults and 2 children going to edinburgh had I gone the st helens - edinburgh option that the trainline offered then it would have cost me £102. (going may bank holiday weekend)
Instead bought single form Preston to edinburgh for £12.10 for the 4 of us, at the end of the transaction we were given a link to get a refund of £15.00, (duly claimed and cheque received0 so that was - £3, you can also claim back £10 a month so we have booked the return for £12.00 so that is going to cost us £2.00 so still cost us -£1. The return (st helens - preston) is £20 so we can claim back £10. on that so the total cost for the 4 of us is £9.

Hello,
I am looking to travel from Nottingham to Liverpool on 6th March, returning on 8th March.
Someone recommended splitting the ticket at Crewe, but this means I have to travel to Derby...resulting in 2 changes and a longer journey than I expected, to save £3.
Anyone know of any other 'split ticket' ways of getting there for less?
Thanks0 -
Any split ticket ways of going from Birmingham to Leeds, cheapest return fare Im seeing is £37, which I think is a bit much...0

The cheapest walk on return fare is £48.90, so presumably what you have got is 'cheap' singles each way. If so you are unlikely to better it by split ticketing - but Sheffield and Derby are worth a shot just in case.
The other possibility is via Manchester - as it's (mainly) not Cross Country trains cheapies may be easier to come by.0 -
I use trains all the time to get around the UK with a young persons railcard, I always get advance tickets where poss and have just gone to purchase some recently to find that there are no longer many advance cheaper fares available.I need to travel with 2 adults both with YPrailcards from Cambridge to Leeds on 27th March daytime and returning 28th March daytime. I also need to travel from Cambridge to Wolverhampton 2 adults on 16th May returning 17th May. Can anyone help as to why there are no longer cheaper options? I used to get returns to Birmingham from cambridge for £20 for 2 adults!!!0

Well you are too early for 16-17 May - not released yet.
Don't know about the Leeds trip, but Cross Country Trains seem to have both reduced the number of advance tickets available and moved what's left to the higher price bands since early this year. NXEC may have done the same.0 -

You want to take the direct route via Sheffield and Warrington rather than Derby and Crewe. There are often advance single fares for Nottingham to Liverpool but if you can't get one for the day you want to go you can try splitting at Sheffield or (possibly but less likely) Manchester.0 -
Derby-Warrington for the day going Mon-Fri morning: £45.50 anytime return, but on the 08 42 it's £18 splitting at Crewe; on the 07 40 it's split at Tutbury and still less half than half price.
Warrington-Cardiff is very odd - no advance tickets on the route via Chester, but a quick single to Runcorn East and advance tickets are available from Runcorn (on the same train, and all on Arriva Wales) - and you can get advance tickets from Liverpool even though Liverpool-Crewe leg is a different TOC0 -
Has anyone got a way to get cheaper tickets for leaving London in the evening peak? St Pancras - Market Harborough is £48 anytime single - could there be a through ticket from the other side of London that might include that in an offpeak fare?0
