Saver return Colwall to Leeds £106.00.
2 saver returns, Colwall to Birmingham NS and Birmingham to Leeds
11.70 + 45.20 = £56.90
Saving = £49.40, nearly 50%.
I like this because you still get the same type of flexible ticket. Suspect it may work for other start points on the Birmingham to Hereford line too but I've not tested this yet.0 -
I'm trying to split an upcoming journey, but had a thought and wondered whether anyone would know the answer to this:
If I buy a ticket online for travel on Sunday at say 08:30 (ie the cheapest single price) but leave on the next train (normally costs more) would I get found out?
Also with return journey, if I bought the cheap ticket for arrival at 23:00 but travelled two hours earlier could I get away with it?
I don't know whether it would be detected by the ticket checker (whether times are printed on?) and whether an excuse of "sorry I missed my train" and "I had to catch an earlier one" would wash with them?
If it helps, I will be picking my tickets up from a FastTicket machine.
*Edit* just read the rules on 'Advance' fares - states must travel on train you purchased ticket for. But can this be enforced/checked?
Yes, this is normally checked and enforced. I was on a train yesterday where the guard pulled a group of six people up for doing exactly this and charged them the additional fare.0 -

I'm trying to go green and not go in the car, but if it's going to cost a fortune then I'll still go in the car
thanks
Hi
St Erth often works as a split point - you will need to change there anyway. But make sure the saving is worth it - because of the pricing St Erth to St Ives costs £4 single on its own. Or you can try Exeter - journeys wholly within Devon and Cornwall are generally relatively cheap. (And if you can prove you live in Devon or Cornwall you can get a railcard that's just for residents and gets you 1/3 off cheap day and saver tickets within the region - downside is you have to prove residence and you can only buy it in person at a Devon or Cornwall staffed station).0 -
I don't get how you guys know where to split?
I need a single and a return on 4th October, Manchester Or Bolton to London Heathrow.OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0 -
Always book on line saving 10% for a start.
Everyone has shown it is possible to save a great deal by splitting thr fares.
Last week, from Enfield in North London to Darlington via Kings Cross was approx £78, I bought a direct ticket to Stevenage for about £5, and booked from Peterborough to Darlington, via Stevenage for under £14!
The above prices were with my 30% discount.Filiss0 -

By experimenting.
Just checked - 4 October is a Saturday. There will be no trains, through ones anyway, from Manchester to London, and few if any cheap tickets when and if they finally appear. I'd suggest you find a different means of transport - bus, air, or hire a car.0 -
