I have tickets for the motor show in london, but cant get a reasonable priced return train tickets. I need two return tickets from leeds to london. I have tried all manner of searches including splitting tickets etc, but it says no seats available when i try to book seats. I need to travel on 25th july and return same day after 6ish...
I can travel possibly on night of 24th july after work, but dont want to arrive in london too late if thats the only option. Am I doing something wrong
Can anyone help. want to keep it approx £100
Definitely - a walk on saver return (leave after 9am) is only £79 and you can do it for £56 with advance singles each way with a limited choice of trains.
It may be you haven't looked beyond peak trains which will be more expensive.
(Sorry - just noticed you need two tickets - but £112 isn't bad. Book on the Natex east Coast site and you may be able to get a discount off that)0 -
Easy one
09:40 from Leeds arriving KX @ 12:03 - £24.90 per person
21:30 from London arriving Leeds 00:12 - £19.15 per person
NXEC
You can knock a fiver off that price if you fancy getting home at 3:00am0 -
I did go a little mad trying out all the permutations for this ticket, in the end I am going from
Tamworth to Birmingham £5
Birmingham to Exeter St Davids £31
Exeter St Davids to PEnzance £ £6
TOTAL £42
- if I only get one ticket it is £63.50
On the return journey I go from
penzance to newton abbot £5.50
Newton Abbot to Tamworth £ £20.50
TOTAL £26
- if I get just one ticket it would be £94.50
I think that's quite a big difference
The return fare would have been £110.50, but it is costing me £68 with this combination
So I think the time was well spent even if it did sent me a bit nuts and there £42 pounds to spend on cream teas & ice creams!0 -
Split the ticket at Sheffield - you can also split at Birmingham but it costs more.
Wakefield to Sheffield £9.10 standard day return
Sheffield to Bristol £24 advanced single
Bristol to Sheffield £33.50 advanced single
Total price £66.60
Standard return ticket £137
Two singles Wakefield - Bristol £107

Thought I'd share the money saving split-ticket option for a one-day trip to Exeter St David's from Cheltenham. Standard Cheapday return ticket from Cheltenham to Exeter St David's is £43.90, but if you split at Western-super-Mare, the fares are £12.60 and £18 for the respective Cheapday returns, making the total cost of the journey £30.60.
:j
Now I've just got to see if the guys at Cheltenham station will sell me both tickets, as I'm travelling tomorrow and haven't got time for them to be posted out.
Does anyone know of a site which allows you to print your own train tickets, like National Express does for coaches?0 -

The guy at Cheltenham 'must' sell them to you. He may warn about missed connections (piffle) but he has no choice but to sell you what you ask for.
Is there a fast ticket machine at Cheltenham? That would be another solution. (There are newish ticket machines there but I don't know their range of options)
For most rail tickets there is no print your own option. There are one or two experiments going on on a few routes - and megatrain do this - but generally not.0 -
Thanks Dzug1. I hadn't thought of using the machines.0

Does anyone know the cheapest way of getting from plymouth to birmingham with a railcard?

Actually there's a snag in your plan - your train must stop at Weston. Very few XC trains do, so you are faced with changes and a longer journey. How picky an XC condutor would be I don't know - perhaps you've found out by now?
Cheaper still though:
cheap day return Chelt - Bristol £7
Bristol - Taunton £9.80
Taunton Exeter £8.90
Total £25.70 and no Weston stop problem0
