Advance singles at £18.50 are readily available for the return journey - outward you may have to look a little harder and pay a little more (£30 ish). Still adds up to a lot less than the £88 walkon fare.
  • A normal return ticket would have been £96.40

    Instead I bought 4 single tickets –
    Edinburgh to Lancaster £15
    Lancaster to Birmingham £25.30

then for my return journey –
    Birmingham to Lancaster £9.50
    Lancaster to Edinburgh £15

    TOTAL: £64.80

    so I saved £31.60!!!!

    THANK YOU MSE!:j

It may be the Sunday return that's the problem - on many routes cheap fares for Sat/Sun come out much later than weekday ones.

Try splitting the journey in London and see if that helps

    Hi All

I'm completely new to this split ticketing idea. Can anyone suggest a split ticket from London Kings Cross to Newcastle?
I'll be traveling with my partner and our two young children, aged 4 and 18 months, and we have a Family Railcard if that helps!

    Thanks in anticipation
