Can anyone help me with finding a split ticket route between Colchester and Portsmouth. I travel down a fair amount of times to see my boyfriend down there and the cheapest I've ever got is £36 with a YPR. Is there any cheaper way of doing it? I've tried megabus but by the time I've paid to get through the underground from Liverpool street to Victoria there's not much of a saving. I've had a look at split ticketing myself but wondered if anyone else has had any luck? ThanksSealed pot challenge member number 702 - target £100 by New Year's Eve 20090

Hi.
I have been looking into getting the best deal Manchester- London. Going down on the 20th June and coming back on the 22nd, for 2 people. We both have YPR.
I have bought a single down there on the Virgin website for £7 each thinking I was doing well on the money saving but they don't have any for coming back on the Sunday and looking for singles now the cheapest direct train seems to be £81 which the same as a return we could have got. Now quite worried I've actually cost myself more money so can anyone help find a cheap London-Manchester single fare on the 22nd June leaving after about 4??
I've tried splitting at Stoke like someone had mentioned but that didn't make it any cheaper :S0 -
rach_bangbang, try looking at London Kings Cross to Doncaster and then Doncaster to Manchester.
The 16.30 from Kings Cross gets into Doncaster at 18.14 and costs £39.60 for 2 with YPR.
Then there is an 18.43 from Doncaster, arriving into Manchester at 20.09 which costs £6.60 for 2 with YPR.
Total cost £46.20.This space has been intentionally left blank0 -

Also try St Pancras to Manchester via Sheffield - ther are normally some cheap deals on a through ticket that way0 -
Hi,
Blackpool to Edinburgh and back again
Trying to get cheapest tickets for a friend and wondering if anyone knew of good split-ticket savings on the Blackpool to Edinburgh (Via Preston) route - it's for the weekend of the 13th June returning the following Monday or Tuesday, but might be able to come up on the Thursday (12th) instead.........
Cheapest I can find is £40 return but that's using advance purchase singles not split tickets......."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the

Well the cheapest fare on that route with a railcard is £11.15 each way. If you are talking about next Monday you've left it too late to get that fare or anything near it.
If you put it off a couple of weeks you can do it for £23 each way - in July cheaper still.
Split ticketing at Peterborough sometimes works on this route - but not for you alas.0 -

Advance tickets are generally better than split ticketing, which relies on anomalies in the standard full or saver fares. Not always, and sometimes you can combine the two techniques, but as a rule if you have an advance ticket for your journey you ain't gonna better it.
To answer your question - experiment and find out. Preston and Carlisle are the only likely candidates.0 -

Is £40 per person (return) a good price or will I get better? That's what it is showing at the moment for the days I want.
To go from Manchester to London direct at the moment is £62 so with this being £20 cheaper (each), I am tempted to book the £40 tickets.
Can anyone give me a steer as to what I should do? Help!0
