I need to go from Plymouth to Ulverston (either via crewe, manchester, birmingham new st, or Preston - arrgggh!) as these seem to be the best stations for splitting tickets.
Theres so many options I'm just pulling my heair out! lol!
Megatrain, only seem to be offereing busses through some of these connections, which aren't any good really.
Has anyone figured out a good way to get from the South West to the Northwest?
many thanks, in advance:D
Well cheap advance purchase singles start at £24.50 for the full journey, no splitting.
Otherwise there is no simple option. To complicate things add Bristol and Cheltenham to your list of split possibilities......0 -
Getting cheap day returns is cheaper than a saver return for a day trip.
E.g. Oxford to Derby with a railcard
i Cheap day return oxford to banbury =4.15
ii Cheap day return banbury to birmingham = 8.05
iii Cheap day return birmingham to derby =6.95
Total is 19.15
vs Saver return 29.10
Without a railcard the savings will be greater.

It costs £8 each way to travel the short distance from Portsmouth to Southampton Airport - you can't buy a period return - anyone got any ideas for cheaper options? There aren't any barriers at the airport exit so thought getting off earlier on a cheaper ticket might be a possibility?0

The only thought I had was that an advance single to Basingstoke might cover the bill - but the cheapest that comes in at is £8 as well.
Think you are out of luck.0 -

Are you staying in London and travelling back the next day? Do you need to be in London by a certain time?0 -

Yes - just be patient. You have been taken in by the 'exactly 12 weeks' myth. It is rarely if ever true. They aren't released yet and probably won't be for a few weeks.
Also look at Megatrain - these will not be released until mid-June though.
What is that £175 fare? A walk on saver return, buy on the day, is less than £60 each so I can't see how you arrived at nearly 3 times that price.0 -

I can't see anything like it there unfortunately so it's difficult to tell where you (or thetrainline) were going wrong. The nearest I can find to that price is a first class return at £174 each which I assume you wouldn't want;) .
But yes, waiting is the thing to do. Tickets are available until early July at the moment AFAIK.
When you do book, don't use thetrainline (or raileasy) - they charge booking fees. Any of the train company websites will do. Or the station -they'll be on sale there as well.
Fares start at £10 single. You may have to defer the return until mid evening to get it that cheap though.0
