I have done split ticketing before from York to London Kings cross and saved quite well.
However I am wanting to Travel York to Kidderminster but not sure what best ticket purchasing is cheapest (Best split route). I am wanting to travel York - Kidderminster and need to arrive at kidderminster no later than 08:35 on 8th of April. Return on 9th Kidderminster to Scarborough leaving kidderminster at around 16:45. Any ideas on cheapest route? Didn't particuarly want to travel by train so early morning but with fuel prices I have little option.
Thank you in advance
You asked exactly the same question 3 months ago - apart from the new dates the answers haven't changed. Buy advance singles for each journey - no need to faff about splitting. And you have to travel the previous evening - it just can't be done in the morning.0 -
Its not a split ticket route as you're changing trains, but I've found this is the best fare. An open return going via Preston by Virgin costs £67. But if you:
Buy saver return for Manchester to Blackburn = £11.50
Travel from Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield by Transpenine:
Standard Advance 'C' = £4 single ticket x2 = £8
Travel from Sheffield to London St Pancreas by East Midland:
EMT Advance C = £7, single ticket x2 = £14
Total cost = £33.50
Not bad. Theres four of us travelling so am going to phone to see if there's a group save as well. The only thing is I'm tempted to hold out to see if Virgin will extend their e-ticketing deal.0 -
If you are going to/from W'Loo to/from stations between Salisbury & Bristol, try splitting the ticket at Basingstoke. It is also cheaper to do this trip from W'loo than it is to W'loo.
This also applies if you use FGW to/from Salisbury and pick up SWT there.0 -

That's a good price, but NB if you get the cheapest advance fares from Virgin from Preston they'd be around the £33/return level.
If you go down the route of going via Sheffield, be careful...the fares you quote are advance - are they restricted to a particular train? East Midland won't show you much sympathy if you miss your connection because Transpennine were running late etc etc.I really must stop loafing and get back to work...0 -

The split at Sheffield may be unnecessary - East Midlands offer through advance purchase tickets from Manchester to St Pancras via Sheffield (occasionally other changing points). Difficult to get the websites to show them - but they are there, often long after Virgin direct tickets have sold out. And the through ticket removes any difficulty in case of late connections.0 -
I was hoping you'd respond to my post! Reading through this and other threads you've spent alot of time helping lots of people:T .
Thanks to bunking_off too! I thought the virgin train from manchester would be less hassle connection wise and there were £1 e-ticketing deals up to 25th April which I keep checking to see if they would extend, but it's a little easier travelling via Preston.
I'm going to give East Midlands a call now about their through advance purchases Cheers!
EDIT: Guy at East Midlands says I have to wait at least 2 or 3 weeks for advance tickets so will have to ring back then. Even though I can see them online - how annoying!0 -
Looking for some help. Some of my family have booked a holiday for August and are flying out of Luton. Considering driving but travelling from the North East, could be expensive with fuel and car parking for two cars (7 people). Is there a good route to Luton Airport Parkway. Have had a look on Trainline but takes them to London and then back to Luton. Wondered if anyone knows a better route. Thanks in advance.0

Given you'd arrive at Kings Cross and depart from St Pancras - which is next door to KX - I can't think of any easier route to Luton Airport unless you take a National Express coach from the North East.
NOTE - there is now a charge for the bus service from Luton Airport Parkway to the airport itself0 -

Please could someone advise me on how to get the best return fare between London Kings Cross and York. I've tried splitting at Peterborough or Doncaster but neither seem to offer any advantage. Thanks.
Of course date & time of travel would help as cheap tickets are not always available - and certainly never more than 12 weeks in advance of travel0
