Berwick-upon-Tweed to London can be split at York or Newcastle, on one-ways basis - just saved over £50 for travel in 2 weeks time. Had to put 2 one-ways, and split ticket at Newcastle on return leg only.0

Liverpool to Redruth (in Cornwall, just in case you somehow haven't heard of this vast and sprawling metropolis):
advanced ticket price booking 2 weeks in advance is £46.50
splitting journey the cheapest i could find gives:
£11.00 - Liverpool-Birmingham NS
£ 9.00 - B'ham-Bristol TM
£10.50 - Bristol-Plymouth
£ 5.00 - Plym-Redruth
Total: £35.50
Saving: £11.00 - i.e. saving almost a quarter of the fare.0 -

umm, yes it's a decent price but surely that's going to add a lot to your journey time and a lot of hassle crossing london considering there are direct trains plymouth to wakefield? have cut loads off journeys between cornwall and leeds (the stop after wakefield) by splitting at combinations of plymouth/exeter/bristol/birmingham/chesterfield/sheffield before, and that way you can stay on the same train.0 -
travelling Nottingham to Leeds. I split the journey into nottingham - sheffield, then sheffield to leeds. have to stop therre anyway. Saved about £15 on open single!

changed plans so actually going liverpool to taunton instead
only available as an open single for £63.50 on times i want but splitting gives:
£ 8.50 - Liverpool-Birmingham NS
£13.50 - B'ham-Bristol TM
£ 5.00 - Bristol-Taunton
works out as £27 instead of £63.500 -
Chester Cheshire to Whitby North Yorkshire
Chester to Manchester Piccadilly £8.00 return with Student Railcard or Saver Return
Manchester Piccadilly £16.00 return with Student Railcard on Transpennine Express
Total cost £24 for a return trip
Otherwise £30 Apex fare (if you can find it!)
Or Standard Saver Return from £43
I thought I knew all the tricks but never thought of splitting
Thanks very much Martin you made my day!0 -
Interesting article in http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/money/consumer_affairs/article2695938.ece?Submitted=trueThe Times yesterday
Gave an example of a split route for London to Penzance via Bristol & back which cost £36 as opposed to £234 for an open return.
Pity you can get DIRECT tickets to Penzance for £14 each way - ie £8 cheaper than the split route0
