does anybody know if it is posible to buy split tickets for this journey? or any alternative ways ways to get there, i cant find any advance tickets and cheapest option i can find iis about £63,
Thanks.
Yes it's possible to buy split tickets - the question is will they be any cheaper? You need to experiment with stopping points en route to find out.
Advance tickets do exist though - from £13.50 single. Maybe you are looking too far ahead - or too near.0 -
Hello there,
Is it possible to buy split tickets on the day from my station?
I would like to go from Newport (South Wales) to Dawlish Warren tomorrow.
I have worked out that it would be cheaper to get a return from Newport to Bristol Temple Meads, a return from Temple Meads to Exeter St Davids and then a return from Exeter to Dawlish Warren.
Would my local station (Newport) be allowed to sell me the return tickets starting at Temple Meads and Exeter?0 -
Your local station is not only allowed but virtually compelled to sell you the tickets you ask for. Some smaller stations may not have the facilities to, or may get the fare wrong - but Newport is not one of those.
Try to go early and buy at a quiet time though.0 -
Natlus:When my daughter needed a single from Swansea to Warrington a while ago, I looked at the route, as her single was costing about £19. Arriva are advertising that they do £10 tickets from Cardiff to Manchester. Without times and dates, impossible to be any more helpful. I looked at changing at Newport, but thought Bristol would be too awkward as there are two stations(like Warrington!).
ps have you seen the Virgin offers to Euston, some tickets as low as £1? Might be able to change en-route0 -
I need to travel to Penzance from Leeds with the next month. I have to change at London, and the ticket will cost me £170. I don't know the best way to split it. Can anyone help please? I need a return travelling on a tuesday PM and returning on a wednesday PM,
Thanks in advance!0 -
I am totally totally baffled as to where you got that £170 fare from.
A saver return is £132.20, route not London, or an any permitted (ie via London OK) £149.90. There's no point in going via London unless you actually want to be in London as there are (a few) through trains via Birmingham.
And if you can find them advance purchase singles will do you a lot better than split ticketing - it doesn't always help.
To find if a split would help you have to do the work - easy enough on line. Choose various stations that the train stops at and experiment.
Bristol Parkway Cheltenham and Birmingham would be candidates on that route - and London itself if you land up going that way.0 -
Another thought (on Leeds - Penzance) - for the Bristol - Plymouth sector look at megatrain.0

Please can someone help me find a cheaper ticket... I am going from Retford (Could be Lincoln or Doncaster if Cheaper) to Dumfries on 17/10 any time after 12 and returning 18/10 after 5pm.
Cheapest I can get is £99.90 splitting at newcastle with virgin value tickets + Super Saver to Dumfries. ( 3 Adults and 1 Child with Family Railcard)
Thanks

I wanted to get to an event on a Saturday at the NEC, travelling from King's Lynn. I was quoted £46-70 as the cheapest option on National Rail Enquiries. However, the following split is valid.
King's Lynn to Ely (Cheap Day Return with Network Railcard) £3-65 (First Capital Connect)
Ely to Peterborough (Cheap Day Return £8-50) (Central Trains)
Peterborough to Stamford (Cheap Day Return £5-50) (same train as above)
Stamford to Leicester (Cheap Day Return £7-90) (still same train!)
Leicester to Birmingham New Street (Cheap Day Return £7-90) (yes same train!)
Birmingham New Street to Birmingham International (Cheap Day Return £3-30) (Virgin Trains service going to London Euston)
TOTAL COST £36-75 (a saving of £9-95!)
A lot of tickets maybe, but it saves you cash!0 -
I just tried this split ticketing and it's amazing. Cheapest return fare for the day and time I wanted to sheffield was almost £70. Two singles were £34-65 and £13 respectively. I just split the outward journey at Bristol Parkway, where I had to change, and it came to £3 plus £12 i.e £15 instead of £34. Haven't tried the return yet. Obviously works even if it takes a bit of experimentation.0
