Having only used split ticketing previously to knock a fiver off when travelling to Bristol from Northampton, I was over the moon to find out how much it actually works...
Virgin Trains, with YPRailcard: Bristol-Newcastle 17:59-22:57 = £59!
Sack that.
Bristol-Birmingham 17:59-19:26 £17.50 (fair enough, it's rush hour)
Birmingham-Newcastle 19:30-22:57 £7.90
58 - (17.5 + 7.9) = £32.60 saved!0 -

Some of the time you might make an additional saving on that by splitting at Cheltenham between Bristol and Birmingham. All trains (except a few Summer Saturday extras) stop there.0 -
hi all,
I couldnt see this route already posted. I am looking to go to Edinburgh Waverley from London Kings Cross on Fri 9th nov, leaving London in the afternoon, and return to London Sun 11th nov leaving in the Afternoon also. the cheapest tickets i can find are 2 singles working out at around £90. If anyone has a split tickets route that works I would be most grateful!!!

London to Edinburgh : Virgin d16:46 a21:56 : £38.50
Edinburgh to London : GNER : £31.60 for most trains after 14:00
Friday afternoon is a BAD time to try and get cheap tickets0 -
Hello,
I am also trying to get to edinburgh from kings croos (or any london station) but cant find anything.
It may be long shot as it is over new year, but i can get single home for £14, but the cheapest way of getting there seems to be £65.
If i can find a cheaper single (or split) getting there then it would be great...
any help would be much appreciated..0 -
Tell us your dates of travel - "over the new year" is a bit vague.
Lots of trains for example for £31.60 on the 28th to Edinburgh, 27th is more expensive and if you have to ask then you can't afford the 29th (£97.20)
I'd start by doing the usual tricks - pricing from Peterborough / Birmingham / Doncaster / Leeds / York / Durham / Newcastle to Edinburgh then work backwards0 -
Hello
I'm looking to travel from Liverpool to Edinburgh on 2 Jan 08. I've tried looking on megatrain, but no allocation left. Have I left it too late?? I just need a single as I'm gettting a lift to Liverpool. I've spent all evening looking at fares and my brain has gone into meltdown! Thank you xx0 -

Megatrain do not serve Liverpool, so you'll find nothing.
They do serve Manchester - but there are no bookings beyond 10 November for Edinburgh as the service is AFAIK being discontinued on the change of franchise. In any case they only book approx 6 weeks ahead.
Cheap fares on rail services for 2 January have in general not been released yet, so you haven't left it too late. The cheapest fare from Liverpool is via York at £11.50 - if you can get one.0 -

Dzug, thank you so much for that. Do you know how soon the cheap fares will be released?0 -

No - but it shouldn't be that long. Last time I checked they were generally available up to 24 December.0
