Try going from Northampton - you can get there easily by bus.

There's a £28 single on Saturday showing at the moment - though engineering works make it a slow, partly bus, journey.

    Hello

What website is that on please!?

    Thanks

Any of the train websites will show you that journey & that price
  • If travelling after 0900 or any time Sat and Sun buy a Deryshire wayfarer- which also includes all buses in Derbyshire- for £8.30. Sold on buses in the county or from tarnsport Executive offices in Sheffield as wella sat Shefield Station. this will get you to Burton-on-Trent and back (if the train stops there-or Derby if it doesn't) for hardly more than a single to Derby. You can buy a day return onwards to B'ham for around £8 -quite a saving on the walk-on saver fare from Sheffield to Birmingham. If travelling on the 0923 virgin from Sheffield you can use these but not a saver, so the saving is even greater.
  • Hi, I need to start travelling from London to Liverpool fairly regularly, leaving L London on Friday's after work , returning very early Monday mornings. Can anyone help me with cheaper split fairs please and how to obtain them. Thanks, tiptop

I need to go from Leeds to Bournemouth and back again. Going 17/11 returning 18/11. Flexible on times.

Best I've managed is £64.50 return Sheffield - Bournemouth (going via Reading with Virgin and coming back via London) plus £9.60 Leeds - Sheffield saver return

    Can anyone beat that?

tiptop - you'll really struggle to get cheap fares on that run at that time as the trains don't really stop anywhere to split the tickets. are you under 26? if so you can get a young persons card which makes saver returns valid. Otherwise its a case of getting a later train on Friday and a late train on Sunday as the Monday AM fares are top whack!

Had you thought of flying from Leeds to Southampton? - only takes an hour @ £89.28 - I know it's more expensive but it allows you to spend more time in Bournemouth doing whatever it is you want to do down there. Just a thought

  • Heathrow Airport - Darlington/North East

Had a look on www.virgintrains.com they gave me a staggering £107 quote!

a few minutes later i checked Heathrow Airport - London Paddington (£15.50)

and London Paddington - Darlington (£15.35)

Thats over a £75 saving!! how can they get away with that!

also i saved even more as i was travelling with my fiance so thats a £150 saving between us! (looks like another weekend away is in order with the £150 i've saved!)

That's using the HEX to Paddington. Why don't you
    a) Use the Heathrow Connect train to Paddington (£6.90) then as before or
    b) Tube to Kings Cross from Heathrow (£4) plus KX to Darlington which will probably be £12.35 - total cost £16.35 per person. You might be able to shave a few pence off that by booking via the GNER website for KX to Darlington
