    I know my dates are too early to buy (Dep Fri 26/06 Rtn Sun 28/06) but what's the best ticket splits to look for on this route?

    Dundee to Bristol (Parkway preferable but OK with Temple Meads) for 2 adults and 2 kids - got a Family Railcard.

    Had a quick look and the cheapest "advertised fare" is from £35.70 each way or £243.70 return.

    I know the preferred route would be the direct Cross Country train, so really looking for ticket splits to suit this. Have been picking random dates to match the days of travel and we're pretty much looking at the standard return fare as being the cheapest!!!

    Thanks for any advice offered.
    I think you are going to have to be a bit flexible if you want the best fares.

    Just looked at a sample Fri/Sun combination... 5 Feb/7 Feb.
    Using Advance Singles, the return trip can be done for £193.00. But, three changes needed in each direction... is it worth £50?
    What about via London? same weekend...
    Dundee- London Advance Singles £59.00.
    London-Bristol Pway dvance Singles £17.00.
    Bristol Pway-London Advance Singles £29:80.
    London-Dundee Advance Singles £59.00.
    Total = £164.80.

    Picking another weekend, 5/7 Mar, there are no Advance Singles on the direct route available on the Friday, meaning you cheapest option is Off Peak Return at £243.70.
    Or via London... very similar, but cheaper...
    Dundee- London Advance Singles £59.00.
    London-Bristol Pway Advance Singles £17.00.
    Bristol Pway-London Advance Singles £17:00.
    London-Dundee Advance Singles £59.00.
    Total = £152.00.

    Info from East Coast Trains website.
    All fares are total for all four of you with railcard.
    Of course, you need to budget for getting across London, 205 bus, £2 per adult children cheaper.

    You may be able to save something by splitting.
    This such a long journey that the route/stop permutations are numerious... time is on your side.

    The important thing is not to be panicked into buying the Off Peak Return at £243.70. That will be available on the day of travel.

    Your just a little bit early for that date, not all the cheap advance tickets have been released, if I check a week earlier you can do the journey for £29.10 Advance single.
    Keep checking over the next week and hopefully the full range of advance tickets will be available.

    You can use this website for help you

    You could try Sheffield, York, Reading or London but as your able to book as soon as there released I doubt that you will find it cheaper that £29.10

    Can be done for £44.00... total return for both of you...

    Dep Wilmslow 06:11, arr London Euston 08:09. Advance Singles = £11.00 each.
    Dep London Euston 17:00, arr Wilmslow 19:10. Advance Singles = £11.00 each.

    Later trains either outward or return will cost at least double that.

    Info from East Coast Trains website.

    Thats probably the best you can do at those times.
    If you could go early Friday and return early on the Sunday, Advance Singles are available at £24 per person each way.

    If you split at Wolverhampton, off-peak return costs £108.80 (£25.00 + £83.80) with split versus £120.40 with no-split, though it could length your journey time for Sunday departure on 16:44 from Blackpool.

    Also, off-peak return is more flexible than advance singles.
