Need to travel Portsmouth/Southsea to Reading, mainly weekend. Have student railcard. Megatrain runs to London, can you get off at Guildford and connect to Reading with the megatrain ticket or do you have to go to London to get their prices. Also does anyone know if the megabus stops anywhere between Portsmouth and London?0

An Off Peak Return Portsmouth to Reading with railcard will cost you £17.80, valid via Guildford or Winchester but not London.0 -

It takes three hours too!

Aberdeen to Great Yarmouth
Just saved £127 with this tip. A ticket for my family of four to travel between Aberdeen and Gt Yarmouth was going to cost £217.60 with a railcard. By splitting the tickets and buying Aberdeen-Peterboro + Peterboro - Gt Yar, I'm only paying £90.60. We'll be on exactly the same train, leaving at exactly the same time!
Oh yes - and by booking through Scotrail instead of the Trainline, I saved another 2 quid in booking fees....0 -
Hello all, looking to travel from Preston on Friday 23rd October departing between 10 and 12 to Edinburgh and returning on Sunday 25th October departing between 10 and 1. Cheapest I can get is the advanced fare return from Preston to Edinburgh for £41 (this is without railcard). I have tried splitting it at various points (going via Liverpool/Crewe and also splitting at Penrith/Oxenholme/Carlisle/Lockerbie) but not managing to find a cheaper fare. Anyone got any ideas and could help please?0

Had a quick look and the cheapest I could get it down to was £28 (2x £14 Advance Singles) but it is a longer journey and includes a bus/walk across Glasgow (Bus Free with rail tickets or 10min walk) and also not at the times you asked for.
Use the NXEC website search Preston to Edinburgh and in the 'more options' select via Glasgow Central/Queens Street
Hope it Helps, there is a very early train from Preston for £10.50 if interested?Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
Thank you, I appreciate your advice. It is not suitable for this current journey but I'll keep it in mind for future travel.0

This is off the top of my head - I'm feeling to lazy to look things up:cool: Washing up calls
but in the absence of through advance tickets at a decent price split in Birmingham Cheltenham and possibly Bristol. There may be a decent priced London Midland ticket from Liverpool to Birmingham.
And yes to use a family and friends railcard a child MUST travel with you.0
