  • I understand that man-glc isn't on megatrain but it's not giving me lon-man either. Maybe it is just that timetables haven't been released yet, will be checking again in a few weeks anyway for 'normal' advance tickets but just wondered if I could be getting it even cheaper than the standard £12/16.50 etc train fares.

London Manchester isn't Megatrain either. Apart from Virgin, the other option is East Midlands trains via Sheffield. These aren't often cheaper than Virgin (advance) fares, but don't sell out as quickly.

And neither route has advance fares for your dates yet
  • *Sigh* very confused now as the megatrain 'stops map' has Manchester on the Virgin trains network?
£12 will do in a few weeks time.

I assume megabus have overlooked updating it since Virgin lost the routes it used to offer to Megatrain - which from memory was Edinburgh and Glasgow. Never London.
  • Hey guys

Got to go to Edinburgh from London in two months time. Absolutely crazy prices at the moment - around 100 quid! Any ideas?????

    Cheers

Well it depends on the date/time but £32.50 seems easily achievable on say 18 June

They are not going to get any cheaper though

It was the Scottish routes. London never counted as megatrain because VT ran its own next-to-nothing fares through its print@home website. But they never released them on either site this far in advance. OP-stop worrying, there are so many trains on that route you're bound to find something when the cheap fares are released.
  • Has anybody found a cheap way to get from Newton Abbot/Exeter to S-o-T? I can't find anything less than £62 travelling over the weekend.

WHICH weekend???? And I assume it's Stoke on Trent. Or could it be Stockton on Tees??

I can find £55 (£24 plus £31) in mid May for Stoke

Cross Country have reduced the availability of advance tickets - and slanted them to the higher end of the price range - since the beginning of the year. So you are unlikely to do much better than you've found, which is considerably cheaper than the walk on fare.

If you want to play about with split ticketing, try Bristol, Cheltenham and Birmingham. I'm sufficiently pessimistic about it working not to be bothered to try.

Alternatively try via London, either on a through ticket or a split ticket. It might be less than you would think

    Hello ticket splitting experts!

I'm trying to get from Warrington to Southend on Saturday 25th April, returning the next day. Need to be there by 16.00ish and would be good to be back by 19.00 the next day. I'm really struggling with split tickets as the trains out of Warrington no longer seem to stop anywhere and splitting at London doesn't seem to help me. Typically I seem to have missed any of the decent advance tickets.

At the moment I'm looking at £76.10 each for 2 adults. Am I doing anything glaringly wrong (other than being stupid and not booking ahead)? Or is this just a poor route to try splitting on?

Would appreciate any words of wisdom.

    Thanks!
