You could play about with Leeds or York and Newcastle depending on where the direct train stops. No guarantees though

I'm trying to get my Mum and aunt from Beeston (notts) to Edinburgh on Monday 6th July and back on Friday 10th July - most likely travelling at peak times (morning out and afternoon back).

From a quick search I seem to be able to make more savings if they are prepared to make multiple changes rather than just Beeston-Derby (change)-Edinburgh. (However, I can do this journey at the times I want on an off-peak return fare - still £135 for both though - with senior railcards)

Does anyone know a good place to split the ticket where they can still stay on the one train? Or should I go for the cheaper ticket with multiple changes?

    thanks for any help.

    Thanks dzug1.

Think I may have answered my own question.

Half the price with advance tickets to go via Nottingham with additional changes at Grantham and York.

I'm sure Mum will work it out
  • Hello all!
Can anyone help me with finding a cheap journey from Leicester to Leeds. Leaving 10th May and returning on the 11th? The cheapest I have found in on Raileasy for £23. Not sure if I entred the details correctly though!!
Thanks for all your help in advance!!:money:

Without looking it up that looks dirt cheap to me.

Save yourself raileasy's fee by booking it on a rail company website
  • hi folks - can anyone help with a single journey from Glasgow (or Edinburgh) to Cardiff on the 10th July.

Idally i'd like to be there mid/late afternoon - the cheapest I have found so far is £113 which is extortionate!!

It doesn't seem to qualify for the cheaper options that thetrainline site seems to offer, am I checking too early?? Should Iw ait a while before booking, will cheaper ones become available? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm not a regular train traveller tbh, so I'm not really sure what I'm doing?
I have no more money to give - all you companies out there - do your worst - I give in!! :(

For Friday 10th July and a very early start!

I know the Ediburgh Waverley to Birmingham New Street is pretty cheap at £15.50 departing 06:08, arriving 11:09.

Birmingham New Street to Cardiff central - £39.00 departing 11:30, arriving 13:31.

So that's £54.50 which is still pretty expensive but a lot better than £113.

That's just a basic route, you may want to play about with maybe Shrewsbury, Hereford or Wrexham.
  • Thank you toon, I shall investigate the route and see what's best/cheapest.

    ?

Might be worth trying via London and splitting there

And avoid the trainline fees by booking on a rail company website

    Try spliting at Crewe;
    Edinburgh W to Crewe 10th 06:52 Advance single £21.50
Crewe to Cardiff Central 10th 11.12 Advance Single £11
    Total Single: £31.50

And as above avoid the trainline

You might want to wait a couple of weeks before booking from Birmingham new street to Cardiff central. I have just booked a ticket which was £7 for an advanced ticket. You may want to wait until 3 or 4 weeks before your journey to get a cheaper ticket.
