hi folks - can anyone help with a single journey from Glasgow (or Edinburgh) to Cardiff on the 10th July.

Idally i'd like to be there mid/late afternoon - the cheapest I have found so far is £113 which is extortionate!!

I hope you haven't booked it yet! I can't quite believe no one else thought to check this, but this is the cheapest I've found...

Glasgow - Manchester Picc d0710 £12 (though for an extra £9.50 you can go in 1st class...)
    Manchester - Cardiff £11
    = £23 single

I don't think you'll find one cheaper than this. It's slightly longer than the Crewe journey above, but it's up to you to decide whether the £9 saving is worth it. I found it on the nxec booking site, though it should be available on all of them (though whatever you use don't use thetrainline).

    Welcome to the forums, Michellex.
Over £120!?!? The walk up Super Off Peak Return ticket, valid all day Sunday, is only £105.00.

Your journey can be done on that day for £64.55 using NXEC advance singles.
Maybe not at the times you want, but leaving Newcastle at 09:00 (arr Kings Cross 12:23) and leaving KX at 22:00 (arr Newcastle, using bus from York, at 02:55).
An earlier return leaving KX at 21:00 avoiding the bus will cost an extra £8 (arr Newcastle 00:50).
All these fares obtained from the Nationalexpresseastcoast website. All are Advance Singles.

Book via NXEC website for a further 10% discount, I think.

£39.50 is quite cheap, and you can only do that if you return on the 20:10 Euston departure.

What sort of help do you need?
I imagine you are asking for information about cheap tickets.
What have you found so far?

There are plenty of tips in this thread and others, but as always you have to put in some effort if you want to find the best deals. If after reading the board and searching the booking sites (my top tip: use the nxec site not trainline-based ones) you get stuck let us know and we'll be happy to help, but it's not fair to make other people volunteer to do the hard work without at least having a go yourself.
