What rail companies offer a cheap deal when you buy tickets in groups of 4? Is it available on all services?

Here is a guide to the "groupsave" deal, not sure if other train companies are doing this. Travel has to be "off peak"
  • Hi,

I've just got a new job as cabin crew. I live in Lincoln and will be commuting to Gatwick regularly for long haul flights.
Does anyone know how to get the cheapest ticket for this journey.

  • Anyone able to find out the cheapest train from Port Talbot - Nottingham. 7th/8th or 9th August 2007. I have not got alot of money and I got my brothers wedding on 11th August and I don't wanna miss it.

    Thanks
  • As far as I'm aware all train companies operating in the SE offer groupsave tickets off peak.
The relevant map has been linked 3 posts earlier by pompeyrich. The train operating companies operating the groupsave scheme are listed at the bottom of the map.
The groupsave scheme allows 3 or 4 passengers to travel offpeak for the price of 2. Tickets are turn up and buy.
  • EDIT: Sorry mods just realized there's a split ticketing thread, passable if this can be deleted and i have re-posted?
  • Hi, i am wanting to travel from plymouth to liverpool return, can anyone tell me the cheapest i can get it for?

  • Hello,
does anyone know if there is a cheap way to get my son is season ticket for getting to school. Somebody did tell me there is a bizarre way to do this via plymouth.
He needs his season ticket from Audley End to Cambridge. He is under 16 so cannot apply for a student railcard.
    Many thanks

If he's under 16 then he should be able to get a child rate ticket - so no need for a railcard.

Your local education office might have more info - the reference to Plymouth doesn't make much sense. If you can find more detail post it, then it might.

The cheapest you can do it is:

Megatrain to Bristol (from £2.50 return) and then Virgin Value advance singles Bristol to Liverpool and back - £12 each way.

The Megatrain fares will be easy enough to get if you book well in advance - the £12 singles might be trickier. There won't be many and they'll sell fast.
