Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me find a fare from Torquay to London Paddington.
I need to leave on the 24/10/07 getting to Paddington no later than 10:30 returning on 30/10/07.
Can anyone beat the £91 I've been quoted?!
The return seems to be £12.50 - its the first part that stings.
Thanks

Is it possible to get from Glasgow to Cambridge and back cheaply? I'm wanting to go for a weekend in November, either the 9th or the 16th. Ideally I want to leave after 4pm on the Friday.
As for coming back, I'd like to leave sometime in the afternoon but all the prices I've seen have been close to £100 mark and there is no way I can afford that. I could probably leave on Monday but it would have to be my absolute last resort.
I have a student rail card if that helps. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.0 -

Pick what suits you best - remember you don't have to use the same airline both ways and you can get half price train tickets to Prestwick. You can use your student railcard in a vain attempt to reduce the £7 each way from STN to Cambridge by train
If you do book Ryanair watch out for them adding "optional" things to your fare, so don't just click through the booking pages but check them carefully at each stage0 -

If it doesn't go to your local station, choose the nearest and then pay for a single for the little extra section of journey. I recently paid £5 for a return journey from birmingham to southampton a journey I have taken before which has cost from £45 up to £60! worth a try. , michelle

Early morning trains are always horribly expensive: consider getting the overnight sleeper or going the previous day and finding a cheap hotel (Travelodge?). Otherwise, journey splitting is your best hope. Try to find a station near you from which a low fare to London is available at the time you need to travel. Once you find one, book it and then buy another ticket for the rest of your journey. For instance, you might find a good fare from Plymouth to London: you will then need to identify the nearest station to you where your train calls (Totnes?), and then buy a ticket to that station.
As an example of how this could work, I recently needed to travel from London to Exeter. I found a good fare from London to Totnes, on a train that called at Exeter. I bought the ticket, and then needed another ticket to enable me to get out of the station. In the end I bought a ticket from Exeter St Davids to Exeter Central...0 -

Try Eurostar, and check what fares you are offered if you claim to be from Belgium, or from the USA (and if you do this and pay in a foreign currency, be sure to use your Nationwide card). And remember that Eurostar give quite a generous cashback, so book through a service like TopcashBack. Journey time is about to or three hours to Brussels and your ticket is valid to any station in Belgium.
The other way involves spending time on a ship: train to Harwich, then ship to Hoek van Holland, then train and your ticket is valid to any station in the Netherlands. Since Nederland has a border with Belgium, this takes you to the edge of Belgium so that only a local train fare would be required to get you to your final destination. However, the ferry crossing takes all day, and if you do it by night you pay extra for a cabin in which to sleep. A bit cheaper than Eurostar, but not if you pay for a cabin (but then you save a night in a hotel). Details from the One railway web site.0 -

And if you can get to Exeter by 0640 (just before first train arrives .... Do the buses run that early?) there's a £22.40 ticket to Waterloo available.
It's the 1030 arrival that does it - later in the day there are more options.0
