There normally ARE no return fares for short journeys in the London area. Ocasional exceptions, but that's the general rule.

Reason is a higher risk of fraudulent reuse of tickets, allegedly.

Other than convenience, why book anyway? You won't save anything.

Not sure im in the right thread ?
Im looking at the above journey on Scotrail on June 28th coming back the same day
2A dults travelling up and 2 adults and 2 children coming back , i think the cheapest is £50 or so return ???????????/ If thats the case i might as well drive but a day or so earlier ive drove from Yorkshire to Scotland ! so id love to let the train take the strain and avoid the A9 !
Can anyone see this journey cheaper ? Or just thinking could i not get a ticket Edinburgh toInverness return on a special deal they do and get on at Pitlochry ????
    Many thanks

    Hi,

Has anyone tried split ticketing to Port Talbot or Cardiff? I travel there at least once a fortnight and would welcome any suggestions for cutting costs. A saver retun currently costs me £46

    Thanks.
  • I've got tickets avalible for anybody who would like them they are worth 38.30 but i just want 30pound for them.
TRavelling from peterborough to darlington 1st july at 9.49
return journey same day at 17.04

I've also got a journey ticket for darlington to peterborough 1st july at 13.03
return journey july 2nd at 10.45

But how many of the cheap tickets allow a break of journey - generally the cheapest tickets that allow it are return tickets and then only on the return leg, so you could do a London to Bath return via Salisbury and break your trip on the return leg at Salisbury.

Also on some routes (eg GNER, Virgin) the cheapest tickets are singles - which don't allow a break.

So before "Travelling Short" check that the ticket will allow it and that there isn't a cheaper combination by using singles

Just had a look on the Arriva Trains Wales site to pick a random example, and I can't find a single ticket type that specifically prohibits breaks. Am I misunderstanding something? http://www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/WorkArea/showcontent.aspx?id=592

You're not missing anything - the Arriva site doesn't cover the subject of break of journey at all- a bit remiss of it.

Well, if the National Conditions of Carriage say that, "these rights may not apply to some types of tickets for which a break of journey is prohibited, in which case the relevant Train Companies will make this clear in their notices and other publications," does this then mean that because Arriva haven't made it clear that a break is prohibited then therefore a break is allowed? Or am I nitpicking?
