And also to learn how to manage money properly. It's a good thing to help your daughter to make the choice about reasonably priced accommodation but the fact that she has booked a flight without working out whether she can afford the trip shows a certain naivety that isn't good in a 21 year old.

With the recommendations given here, I'm sure they could get a good deal and I hope they enjoy their trip but how old is she going to be before you let her deal with the financial consequences of her own decisions?

    I agree with this 100%.

OP, you've had a few people say similar things to you and you seem to think they're out of order.

I think it's commendable that you want to help your daughter out of the potential hole she and her boyfriend have dug for themsleves but I do think she needs to get herself into the real world pdq.

Does she even have any idea of what she wants to do or see in Dublin?

Is she aware that it's very expensive to eat and drink there (as it is in most major cities)?
When we were there in 2008, a pint of Guiness was around €4.60 - €4.90 and steaks were €25.

I think the berst way to handle this is to sit her down and trawl holiday websites to see what things she might want to do (Kilmainham Gaol, Guiness Storehouse etc) and how much they cost for entrance, how much things cost (food & drink) and suggest that the cheapest way might be to kiss goodbye to the 'cheap' flights that will end up costing her (or more accurately you) lots of money.

How cheap were the flights? If they were really cheap why not tell her to just ditch the flights and find a different destination where it will be cheaper when they get there. Dublin with not much money will not be fun for 21 year olds. Last time I was there we were paying nearly €5 a pint and about €20 for a rubbish meal in a pub, the hotel wasn't cheap and not great quality and I got bored after a day. How about somewhere in Eastern Europe instead?

    Oh dear!

Check which airport in Rome as there are 2 - Ciampino & Fiumicino - as this could affect costs of travelling to the hotel.

Did they change their minds and re-book flights to Rome? Or were they always going to Rome?
