any thoughts on cheap things to do, once they've got over the novilty of *not* having single beds? guinness is expensive, and they'll not have a car.

Do a walking tour of the city. Either a guided one or just using a guide book. Go see all the sights which are free or cheap. Get a local transport travel card, these are usually quite cheap. Make friends with the locals, very easy in Ireland! Stay in a hostel instead of a hotel and meet other travellers as well as saving money to spend on tourist stuff.

People!! Why crucify the guy?? doing a nice thing and wants daughter to be safe.

That is the one thing that is wrong with these forums; You ask for help and advice for one thing and get a roasting for another!!

Nothing wrong with Mum and Dad helping out but I think theres something wrong with booking half a holiday then getting Mum and Dad to bail you out because you didn't plan it properly and can't afford it.

Discover Ireland has some stuff on Dublin.

She's 21 and booked a few days away with BF I don't honestly see why you are getting involved.. sorry but its their business and their holiday they'll sort it out if you leave them to it. If you interfere then don't be surprised when it costs you money..

when i was 21, there wasnt the option to 'go to dublin for a few days' and in a time when money is so tight, isnt that why we all support this forum, to ensure we can all do as much as we can, to enrich our lives, for a little monetry impact as possible.

i would have thought her reading your *mostly* wonderful comments, might make her ask questions on here before making rash decisions in the future.

I really hope, and im sure they will with all your advise, have a lovely time (2 beds or not!)

but to criticise me for wanting to extend the value of *their* euro is a bit much!!

To be honest 6 days is along time in Dublin. Suggest they consider 'back packing' round Ireland for the six days so only a couple of nights in Dublin and then four in other places. Hostels are cheaper and sociable.

My daughter has just returned from a reasonable travel trip. Sorting her own arrangements out was a necessary part of being an adult.

Bank of Mum and Dad were on standby...

This place is in the Temple Bar area which is central Dublin, very touristy and party central! I have stayed here in a group for a hen weekend - it's clean, well managed etc and so central that you don't have taxi costs etc going out at night. The place is extremely well known and well reviewed. For teh budget your daughter has I think it would be ideal.

I'm sorry, OP, I agree with this. She's 21 - let her make and learn from her mistakes. Does she know you're trying to organise her holiday for her?

    yes she does.

i think she realises booking flights *cause they're cheap* doesnt account for the whole trip.

as she is working at the moment, im the one with internet access.

im not organising the trip for her/them otherwise, id take our caravan across and do everything. im only trying to put some ideas forward to enable them to have a lovely time together.

A quick search on booking.co shows a number of hotels for under €400 for 6 nights for the 2 of the them

I've stayed in the Ripley court hotel before, very nice and central, can also recommend O'sheas on Talbot street

There is also a number of hostels, Try litton lane hostel

As for things do do - there is of course plenty, some free, some a rip off, stay away from Temple bar for a night out, unless they want to burn money.
Its nice to go and eat in though, and some places reasonable

I find the best way to see Dublin is just to walk around it with the help of a map from the tourist office.

Also, since they are there for 6 days, they could take a few trips out of the city, i would suggest wicklow, some lovely parts and relatively close to Dublin, try Bray.

I've stayed at the YHA hostel in Dublin; it was very comfortable. They also have twin rooms.
