The Channel 4 programme Undercover Boss is featuring Poundworld this coming Tuesday. Director Martyn Birks goes undercover to find out about unhappy staff and failing performance rates in some stores.
I cant help wondering if they are going to mention the fact that they have unemployed people working in their stores on rolling work placements. (one unemployed person finishes their placement and is replaced with another one so no actual paid employment.)
Asking staff to stay late with no notice and offering them goods instead of wages which takes them below the minimum wage.
I overheard this in our local store earlier this year and started a thread about it on here but for the life of me i cant remember the exact title so cant find it.
I am willing to bet that the Poundworld boss wouldnt want any of this broadcast so if anything like this was caught on film i would bet it is already on the cutting room floor.
However i will still be watching this with interest.

It will be an interesting one to watch!
I expect the undercover boss will 'react with horror' to the tactics of local branches and explain it away as not being company policy and something he'll fight to put right etc etc.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

Work placements are no longer a Mandatory requirement. Entirely voluntary on the Work Programme, I am lead to believe????I'm not a "SINGLE" mum, I'm a "DOUBLE" mum!:D0

Thankyou ceridwen but i think it was a different one. It was about our local store asking a young lad to stay late with no notice. The manager said "We cant pay you but we can give you a bottle of wine for doing it." Then she realised the young lad was Muslim and didnt drink. While the thread was running i got a private message from someone, asking which store it was so i said where it was and then they said "ah yes thats the one" but although i messaged back to find out what happened i never did find out and i did wonder if it was someone from their head office posing as a store assistant.
Thanks again for looking Ceridwen x0 -

Has anyone ever been sacked on any episodes of undercover boss? It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0
