MSE News: Eon is latest to announce energy price rises

So it looks like my bes to option is to stay with eon and switch from saveonline v3 to v9. However, I am only better off doing this after the price increase. Can I do this by using the early-exit amnesty and how best is it arranged so I switch over to v9 as close as possible to the price increase date?
Hello again gwapenut
Provided the tariff is still available at the time, you can switch online if you wish. The change will take place on the day you do this.
Alternatively, either give us a call on the day or drop an email to the address in my Profile and we'll sort this out for you.

I have been submitting readings online precisely on the date of any significant changes for years. E.On's computer doesn't believe that I put in the actual readings, and so they are "Not used for billing".
The E.On computer then proceeds to create an estimated reading, and uses that to calculate the bill. The absurd thing is, E.On then sends out a meter reader, whose actual reading confirms my readings, are also "Not used for billing".
I submit the readings any way, because if their estimate is too wildly out, in their favour of course, I can ring up and argue.
I think I might have to switch from SaveOnline 8 to 9 on 13th September 2011, so will certainly submit the readings on the 13th.
Hi Pincher
Don't mean to sound alarmist but if we're rejecting readings on a regular basis, there might be a particular reason for this.
This need not be serious. Could just be a case of re-scheduling our meter reader visits so they fall within the billing window.
This window is open for a set period of time (depending on the billing frequency) either side of the bill date. Readings, either from our rep or a customer, received within this time automatically create a bill.
Readings received outside of the window won't be used and are registered as 'Not Used For Billing.'
Might be worth a call just to check all's ok.

Hi,
It would helpful if you could tell me (for quarterly bill frequency), how many days this window exists to ensure that my readings will be used for producing the bill, otherwise I'll just be guessing.0 -
Hi toby
For quarterly accounts, the billing window is open 14 days either side of the bill date. Meter readings entered during this period will automatically generate a bill.
If you've registered online, you can see the date of your next bill at the top of the Account History page. If not, give us a call and we'll be happy to let you know.
Hope this helps toby. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

Hi guys, thinking of switching to NPower Sign Online 23... does anyone know if NPower have put their prices up yet or are likely to soon?A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

Hi Lifes Grand Plan
If you leave because of the price increase, you'll not be affected by the new rates or receive a cancellation fee.
This is provided you let us know your intentions before 13 September 2011 and your preferred supplier contacts us within 15 working days of you telling us you're leaving.
Just a quick heads up; please be aware, we don't give discount on final bills when changing supplier unless a contract has been completed.
Hope this clears this up Lifes Grand Plan. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

Just called E.On to tell them I want to reject the price increases and leave without cancellation fee... surprise surprise they tell me that I can't leave without paying the fee but can change to a different tarrif without a fee....
This is makes me hate companies with a passion, they lie to customers (and then claim it is a training issue and think an apology puts all right). Unfortunately people less strong minded / well informed (thanks to MSE) than me would just believe all they say and stick with them.... very bad.A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

Hi Lifes Grand Plan
I'm really sorry you were given such poor and downright wrong info when you called in.
Just to make absolutely clear; customers changing supplier because of our recent price increase announcement will not be charged a cancellation fee regardless of the tariff they're currently on.
I would bring this to the attention of the manager of the agent you spoke to. Giving such wrong advice is not acceptable.

Thanks Malc, waiting for a call back now from a manager (not holding my breath).
I must say, I think you give excellent support on here, its just a shame the rest of E.On isn't this good.A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

Hi Pincher

As I stated, I submit readings very precisely to coincide with specific events. For the ending of FixOnline 8, I submitted gas and electricity readings on 1st AND 2nd July 2011, but I did not request a bill. I submitted the readings for 1st August, which was USED to calculate a quarterly bill, as expected.
The bill used 2nd July as the switchover date, and used ESTIMATED readings to calculate the FixedOnline 8 and post FixOnline 8 portions of the bill, ignoring my readings totally. The discrepancy was less than £1, in E.On's favour, so it was not worth haggling.
So, even if the the customer does submit readings on the date a tariff ends, the computer will still ignore it. At least I have it on record, so if the estimate is wildly out, I can challenge it.
I will try to request a bill next time I switch tariff internally, and see what happens. I expect the computer will ignore the customer reading and generate what it thinks is a more "reasonable" reading.
I try to time the switch with quarterly bills, e.g. I switched to FixOnline 8 on 1st May 2010, so the request a bill issue usually does not arise.0 -
I just wanted to make you aware that I have today received my letter from Eon announcing a price increase to the tariff I have only had since April this year. Despite a press release on their website shown below my electricity tariff has increased by 21.5% and my gas tariff by 27.4%. I’m absolutely astonished and bewildered.0
