I currently pay £49 a month (d/d) for gas and elec.
If the prices are going up 15.2% overall then it will cost me an extra £7.45 a month or about £90 a year (£678 for the year total).
A moneysupermarket search reveals E.On Fixed S@ver V2 would cost me £646.03 so would be cheaper to fix on that deal than stay on current deal.
Am I missing something or should I jump on that fix like a tramp on chips?A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A
If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.0 -
We're on EON SaveOnline 3 (a variable deal which runs out on 1/11/11) in the SWEB region. We get a total of 8% discount off the tarriff unit prices due to Direct Debit billing and Dual fuel, but the unit prices have gone up way more than the 'average' 11.4% for electricity and 18.1% for gas quoted in the press release. We're looking at 24.9% increase across the board. Ouch!
However even after the hike we're still cheaper than any of the recent fixes or other current deals that have been available. The pain will come in November when the deal runs out and the revert-to tarrif (EnergyOnline) is a further hike after which our unit prices will have risen as follows (compared to today):Gas Elec first N units 66.2% 49.7% remaining units 34.0% 41.1%
(N is 2680 kWhs for Gas and 900 kWhs for Elec - per year) There is also a 2% additional discount on EnergyOnline compared to Save Online 3.
[STRIKE]
Of course we won't revert to that tarrif as we'll hopefully find a better deal come November. I remain cautiously optimistic that the various upward pressures on wholesale prices might have reversed by then![/STRIKE]
UPDATE: Bagged the EDF Fix S@ver v2 as it was now coming up £30 less than EON SOv3 from 13/9 according to energyhelpline (who have updated their site)

Thankyou bigfoot but what on earth is kwh and where am I supposed to look up that. I only have bills asking for money and it shows up in £s and none whatsoever showing up in kwhs if I'm frank with you.
I'll have a look at them once again, I'm on paperless billing so I'm not sure if I can see one year's bills.0 -

If you ring your current supplier they are legally obligated to tell you how much gas and electric you have used in the last 12 months. Just ask them, it's very painless. Write the 2 figures down then hit the switching sites, determine which is the best deal then check on Quidco/topcashback if that supplier is offering any cashback for switching, if so go through them. DON'T use the switching site to switch as they effectively get the cashback you should be getting. Any probs come back here and you WILL find help freely available.0 -
We are currently on e-on Save online 5.
Just a quick warning to anyone who is using e-on tariff swap pages or uswitch comparison site.
e-on Save online 9 tariff is at present showing cheaper than save online 5 this is because the new prices from 13/9/11 have not been appied to the save online 9. Do not swap to save online 9 as it is now and will be more expensive than save online 5.
Save online 5 has a 6% reduction on standard online tariff.
Save online 9 has a 2% reduction on standard online tariff.0 -
I am an EON customer and, after complaining it was impossible to calculate whether moving to one of their fixed rates was worthwile, received the following helpful message:
"Your are currently on our SaveOnline 3 tariff and on this tariff your total combined gas and electricity expenditure is £1,314.00 based your current energy usage. On AgeUK Fixed Price July 2013 your total gas and electricity expenditure will be £1,754.00 and on Fixed Price Version 5 this will be £1,685.00."
So their rates have to rise by at least £300, more than 25 percent, to make it worthwile to switch, so should I?

David, see my posting above for an illustration of what will happen to the SaveOnline v3 rates (in our region at least - SWEB) when the tarrif ends on 1st November and you revert to the 'EnergyOnline' deal.
My figures might be out slightly, and will vary by region, but the 34% for Gas and 41% for Elec (comparing the prices effective up to 13th Sept with those after 1st November) will probably be in the right ball park for you too (in unit prices at least).
Energyhelpline appear to have updated their comparison tool with SaveOnline v3's new prices so check it out, as EON's fixes are way higher than EDF's in my region at least. Use kwH values rather than £annual if you can extract this from your bill. For me at least, EDF Fixed S@ver v2 is cheaper than the SaveOnline v3 prices effective 13th Sept (let alone the increase on 1st Nov when it reverts to EnergyOnline).
You should be able to escape the SOv3 exit fee and and price rises if you notify EON - before 13th Sept - that you are switching to competitor (according to the updated news article).Cider Country Solar PV generator: 3.7kWp Enfinity system on unshaded SE (-36deg azimuth) & 45deg roof0 -
Disgraceful increases from the energy cartel.
They are making huge profits.
All in it together? Not a chance.0 -
I am an EON customer on the energy saver online tariff and so have just checked through uswitch comparison site and can see that I can save over £135 by switching to Npower - so good bye EON - I urge others to also check (it only took 15 mins)0

I would be a bit careful about this. Npower are yet to announce their price increases in this latest round of price rises. :eek:0
