MSE News: Eon is latest to announce energy price rises

So it looks like my bes to option is to stay with eon and switch from saveonline v3 to v9. However, I am only better off doing this after the price increase. Can I do this by using the early-exit amnesty and how best is it arranged so I switch over to v9 as close as possible to the price increase date?0

I have been submitting readings online precisely on the date of any significant changes for years. E.On's computer doesn't believe that I put in the actual readings, and so they are "Not used for billing".
The E.On computer then proceeds to create an estimated reading, and uses that to calculate the bill. The absurd thing is, E.On then sends out a meter reader, whose actual reading confirms my readings, are also "Not used for billing".
I submit the readings any way, because if their estimate is too wildly out, in their favour of course, I can ring up and argue.
I think I might have to switch from SaveOnline 8 to 9 on 13th September 2011, so will certainly submit the readings on the 13th.0 -
Moneysupermarket tells me I will be £90 a year worse off if I switch away from EON to EDF fixed saver v2... Whereas energyhelpline tell me I will save £170....
...According to MSE advice Energyhelpline is rated the best for reliability etc. Just wondering if anyone else has any views?
Energyhelpline has a quirky feature which is not common in comparison websites in that if it detects the existing tariff is due to mature soon it includes the cost of the default maturity option, normally an expensive (and possibly increased??) standard tariff.
When this happens there is a slightly cryptic comment and link. To get a comparison with the current tariff rates it is necessary to click through a couple of links.
Personally I think this is an interesting but slightly "naughty" feature, though the real test of that is how many people understand that (and whether or not MSE has highlighted that particular "feature").

You can only avoid contractual exit penalties by invoking Ofgem rules if you leave EON.
You may be able to sweet-talk a CSA to waive the penalty charge from moving from one tarrif to another before the end of SOv3. The threat of taking your business elsewhere usually helps.Cider Country Solar PV generator: 3.7kWp Enfinity system on unshaded SE (-36deg azimuth) & 45deg roof0 -

Just a quick warning to anyone who is using e-on tariff swap pages or uswitch comparison site.
e-on Save online 9 tariff is at present showing cheaper than save online 5 this is because the new prices from 13/9/11 have not been appied to the save online 9. Do not swap to save online 9 as it is now and will be more expensive than save online 5.
Save online 5 has a 6% reduction on standard online tariff.
Save online 9 has a 2% reduction on standard online tariff.
A couple of other people raised the same question about SaveOnline 9 so I double-checked the rates and they are correct.

Have been expecting this news for a long time.
I'm on Save Online 5 (or whatever its called, sorry) which has a termination(?) fee. Does anyone know if this still applies if I leave because of these price rises? I thought I could reject the price rises if I move supplier but not sure how the fees apply in this case.
Thanks
Hi Lifes Grand Plan
If you leave because of the price increase, you'll not be affected by the new rates or receive a cancellation fee.
This is provided you let us know your intentions before 13 September 2011 and your preferred supplier contacts us within 15 working days of you telling us you're leaving.
Just a quick heads up; please be aware, we don't give discount on final bills when changing supplier unless a contract has been completed.
Hope this clears this up Lifes Grand Plan. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

what I'm trying to fathom, is save online 9 based on prices from 13th Sept, or will it increase when prices go up, bit liuke what happened with websaver 12 when bg announced their increase, or what scottish power are doing with Direct 2012 and Online Energy Saver 14, not putting uinit rates up on normal idate for rest of variable tariff increases (1-8-11), will they put them up in a few months time, cos save online 9 is really competitive in terms of cost.
Hi Airmike
Saveonline 9 prices will not be going up on 13 September 2011. The prices now on our website will be unaffected by the price increase announced last Friday.
Hope this helps Airmike. Give me a shout if you need any more info as happy to help.

Hi monkeyspanner
The Saveonline 9 prices announced last Friday will not be changing on 13 September 2011.
However, Saveonline 5 prices will change on this date in accordance with our price increase also announced on Friday.
Just a quick heads up; the 6%/2% terms applicable to these tariffs are not additional discounts. They're an assurance that prices will be at least this percentage cheaper than our standard rates throughout the length of the agreement.
Discounts on both versions of this tariff are 8% for dual fuel and 6% for electric only.
Hope this makes things a little clearer monkeyspanner. Let me know if you need any more details as will be happy to help.

Does anyone know whether saveonline v3 customers are allowed to cancel early and move away without penalty because of the price rise? Can we give notice now or do we have to wait for a letter informing us of the rise?
Hi gwapenut
If you want to change tariff/supplier because of the price increase, you'll not be affected by the new rates or receive a cancellation fee.
You don't have to wait for a letter. As I said above, provided you let us know your intentions before 13 September 2011 and make sure your preferred supplier contacts us within 15 working days of you telling us you're leaving, all will be ok.
Just a quick heads up; please be aware, we don't give discount on final bills when changing supplier unless a contract has been completed.
Hope this is useful gwapenut. Let me know if I can help further as happy to do so.

1. I came off EONs Fixonline 8 at the end of June and was unsure whether to change to their SaveOnline 7 or pay £300 more per year and go on their Fixed Price 5. I decided on SaveOnline 7 and switched on July 1st
2. After EONs price rise today i went on to the comparison websites and by accident discovered that EON put up their SaveOnline 7 unit rates. When i rang customer service they told me it went up on July 2nd!! What a bunch of crooks EON are (as if we didn't know)
3. After this stunt I now want to leave EON after being with them for ages and go onto an EDF fixed tariff but will i still have to pay their £30 cancellation charge? If not what is the best way to tackle it? Shall i sign up to EDF asap or inform EON first?
Any advice on this and switching to EDF gratefully received.
Hi emesee
Seems to be a bit of confusion here. I'll do my best to clarify.
Saveonline 7 was launched on 27 April 2011 and has not been affected by any price changes until the one announced last Friday.
I suspect our agent was referring to the date your particular prices changed at the end of Fixonline 8.
As Fixonline 8 finished on 1 July 2011, you'll have gone on to Saveonline 7 the next day, 2 July 2011. As Saveonline 7 is more expensive than Fixonline 8, I'm assuming our agent was referring to the increase in your individual prices rather than a general tariff increase.
If you let us know your changing supplier because of the price increase, you'll not be affected by the new rates or receive a cancellation fee.
As I said above, make sure you tell us before 13 September 2011 and your preferred supplier contacts us within 15 working days of you advising you're leaving.
Also, please be aware, we don't give discount on final bills when changing supplier unless a contract has been completed.
Sorry for any confusion caused emesee. Let me know if you need any more details as happy to help.
