I just rang Holmes Place and Pruhealth to check out which would offer me the better deal.

Holmes Place £72 per month and I can use most clubs
Pruhealth £72 per month with membership and health insurance but I would only be able to use one gym!

    Are you a salesman?
  • Just spoken to AXA Insurance on the phone and apparently their 6 months free LA Fitness scheme is still applicable until the end of Feb. I did have to ask for it and mentioned Pruhealth to them, but it was offered.
One catch was that AXA do seem to tie you in to a 12 month contract to them. My quote with AXA was £25.21 per month with free gym for 6 months. There is also a £25 admin charge for instating the LA Fitness membership.
This should probably be added to the main page on the gym loopholes.....

    Thanks,

    Andy Winbourne

That's because it's not the same offer as was on MSE before x-mas... There was no tie-in or admin fee then. Still looks like an ok deal though.

I took out the membership just before x-mas: with a little manipulation, got my premium to £11.05/month - very cheap gym membership! If I was tied in for 12 months, I suppose that would double the effective price of the membership (but I'm not!)

I take my last post back: It does still work, it's just that I was going through Quidco and it doesn't do the same offer! So far so good: Now have health insurance for myself for £24.23 per month. Holmes Place will be a further £25 per month plus £25 registration fee. To get the gym membership you have to wait until the health insurance comes through and then ring 'em up and arrange it through a central Holmes Place number. Saved around £10 or so per month, and got free health insurance too in case I ever get really, really ill, which is not bad. :T

What I really like about this is that I now have a cash incentive to keep fit, since next year's policy goes down if you look after yourself with their vitality plan. Also Holmes Place have a creche so I can leave my toddler there every now and then and have a little break! Very good!

how did you manage to get gym membership down? Define 'a little manipulation'. Perhaps the rest of us can learn...

I think he means the health insurance premium. gym membership is free for six months with Cannons so that in fact is VERY cheaqp gym membership.

You get a £7,000 fine and 6 points on your licence. Think they expire after 7 years though.
