Oooooops, sorry, Eric, of course I should have said fructose.

The only fat animals you see are those that have their food provided by humans. Especially those treated as 'pets' who are carried about and don't even get the chance to use their legs!

In nature, animals use up as much energy in seeking out and catching their food as they do when they consume it. We used to do similar when we were hunter-gatherers. It wasn't a matter of picking up the phone and ordering a pizza delivery, or going in the car to McDonald's. If anyone is interested, read Eric Schlosser's book 'Fast Food Nation'. It's a few years old now, but the basics have not changed.

I watched the film Walmart - High Cost of Low Prices and everyone was going round making out Walmart were assassinating small store owners.

Now although some of the work practices of Walmart were often morally bankrupt the closure of local shops was caused by the local community not them, it was the people who shopped that went to Walmart instead because they could get things cheaper.

In the same light takeaway food is not the villain, we are, or those that surcomb are, in all things we must take responsibility of our own actions. There may be an argument if we are misled but this is limited by experience we all know where the calories are :-).

I'll be on the wii for a bit later today, I managed to lose half a stone last time I went on there over a year ago so I know it helped me.

Well I did it, I was brave and went to Slimming World for the first time last night (all by myself, it was very scary). It was really good actually, far more people there than I expected and it was really inspirational hearing about everybody's weight loss so fingers crossed when I get weighed next week I lose something! Just have to make sure I stick to the plan. :)

Actually i think they do have concerns about feeding people cheaply (government that is), what do they say any nation is only 3 missed meals away from revolution, by conveniently "finding" all this evidence that grains should be the bulk of our food intake they have solved this problem

grain also has another advantage in that you can store massive quantities and guard against crop failure.

trouble is its making everyone obese, diabetic and giving us heart disease

Could this be an argument for daily rather than weekly weighing?

my problem with daily weighing is that we naturally fluctate a good +/- 2-3 lbs a day anyway so it could become demoralising, or worse it could lead to OCD

you should focus on the lifestyle change and the weight loss will come naturally, you shouldn't get hangup on it, it comes in time

    just my perspective of course

Tesco's work on a very similar model, and are extremely aggressive when it comes to buying land to stop competition

but as you say we have the choice as to who we use and for most of us price rules

I dont deny exercise is beneficial, but if weight loss is your goal you can and most do loose weight with out it, so it is not necessary, if you can not or will not exercise it should not be a barrier to loosing weight

As I said I would recommend that if you can you do 2 x HI cardio and 2x HI resistance sessions a week then do it, but primarily for health, fitness and that fact being fit makes you a happier more for filled person, the extra weight loss is a bonus

And trust me I know about loosing 200+lbs :p with a BMR of 4500+ you really don't need to do any exercise to loose lbs, its easy to create a massive cal deficit, i lost 30lbs in my first 19 days, my first exercise session was week 7 after loosing 50lbs and i could only manage to walk 0.3 of a mile in 12 mins before collapsing, not bad since at the start I couldn't even walk upstairs in one go :)

And I dont think you have offended anyone, we all have to find our own path and that means finding a system that fits in with the way we live, that may be heavy exercise, a natural primal diet or a regimented system

I merely put my opinions across to help where I can, and try to get people to think about whats going on in there body and what actually makes them fat (and its not the fat you eat :p) to try and make weight loss that little bit easier, loosing weight does not require will power or being hungry if you eat the right foods. It does require discipline, which is 1000 times easier to deal with than will power.

Oh and to defiantly debunk the lies about low fat diets being good for you and saturated fat being bad for you ...

Some food for thought there Eric in both of your posts. I guess the reason I was quite sensitive to your initial posts is because I can't really see myself losing weight without it. I sort of have an anxiety attack. And I guess I was always told without exercise, I wouldn't be able to lose as much weight as I wanted. Whether that's the truth or not, too late to find out. Growing up with 2 brothers who are fitness freaks, it's kind of hard changing my mindset.

It's kind of like you said about the fat. Back before I started losing weight, I always thought low fat was better, then when I researched, found out it was actually the carbs that were the evil group. :p Kind of have to get my head around this diet thing too the same way.

I'm sorry about the loose skin, I genuinely had no idea how difficult it was. :( I hope it stretches back to normal.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to me in detail. :) Oh and I think you did pretty amazing with your weight loss. Hope you get to goal soon.

  • Well I stayed up today after a 12 hour nite shift to get weighed at 10AM when all I wanted to do was go to bed, to be told I had gained +1lb.

Truly gutted as I had thought I had been pretty good, and worked hard at bootcamp. I also feel like I have lost weight.

As Eric says weight fluctuates throughout the day, so maybe because I'd been up all night....
Or am I just looking for excuses.:(
