You've totally missed the point though. Eric said exercise is not necessary and not really beneficial unless it's proper hardcore (like in the biggest loser). I was merely pointing out that even 1hr per day would be enough and when I said 1000calories, I was trying to show that you don't need to be a workout freak to create a deficit.. I never said anywhere anything less than that is pointless. Truthfully, any little exercise helps, whether it's 20mins or 30mins or whatever, even walking. I mean I started out walking and there's various forums with people losing 200lbs+ just by walking.

And that's fab, but again I don't see anywhere where I've said anything against that.

Again I'm getting this vibe that I've somehow offended you and I'm sorry if I have, but please show me anywhere where I've said people who don't exercise wont lose weight. In fact I even stated that you can lose weight without exercise. I lost weight without exercise whilst on holiday. My parents and siblings lost weight due to stress, again lack of exercise. I'm sure there's a joe bloggs out there who has lost weight on a change of diet alone. But my point is: exercise is beneficial. It doesn't have to be biggest loser style where they workout hours and hours per day.

It's great that your husband is able to lose weight without any exercise at all, but not everyone is like that. Some people do actually need exercise or any physical activity in order to burn the fat.

Sorry if I offended you or anyone else. Didn't mean to.

I dont deny exercise is beneficial, but if weight loss is your goal you can and most do loose weight with out it, so it is not necessary, if you can not or will not exercise it should not be a barrier to loosing weight

As I said I would recommend that if you can you do 2 x HI cardio and 2x HI resistance sessions a week then do it, but primarily for health, fitness and that fact being fit makes you a happier more for filled person, the extra weight loss is a bonus

And trust me I know about loosing 200+lbs :p with a BMR of 4500+ you really don't need to do any exercise to loose lbs, its easy to create a massive cal deficit, i lost 30lbs in my first 19 days, my first exercise session was week 7 after loosing 50lbs and i could only manage to walk 0.3 of a mile in 12 mins before collapsing, not bad since at the start I couldn't even walk upstairs in one go :)

And I dont think you have offended anyone, we all have to find our own path and that means finding a system that fits in with the way we live, that may be heavy exercise, a natural primal diet or a regimented system

I merely put my opinions across to help where I can, and try to get people to think about whats going on in there body and what actually makes them fat (and its not the fat you eat :p) to try and make weight loss that little bit easier, loosing weight does not require will power or being hungry if you eat the right foods. It does require discipline, which is 1000 times easier to deal with than will power.

Oh and to defiantly debunk the lies about low fat diets being good for you and saturated fat being bad for you ...

Trying the eat less move more approach, I've certainly moved more in the past two days! And eaten less...

I've joined the gym before but mum started making excuses so I ended up not going coz I was too scared to go on my own. (I was 16 and had only been twice) I don't have the money to join a gym right now plus I hate to exercise in front of people. I'm gonna go on the Wii whenever I can for now and see what happens.

Don't worry about it. It is NOT obligatory to go to the gym. You hear about it a lot nowadays but how did people stay slim before there were so many gyms about? Answer: they didn't eat junk food, mostly ate food cooked at home, and they certainly moved more - moved around as a matter of course, didn't have cars so walked or cycled.

No one has offended me. I am not so easily offended as all that! It was the mention of 'an hour's workout a day' that spooked me. We cannot all do it. We do what we can. I've had a lot of this 'can't do it at your age, what do you hope to achieve, isn't it too late, why bother' kind of thing. Not here - everyone here has been immensely supportive, as they have been on the Dukan forums.

DH has now taken to weighing himself much more frequently than he used to. This morning, 100.6 kg. He hasn't been down as far as that for a very long time. He says he 'isn't making any special effort'. He certainly isn't as far as exercise goes, but he's eating a lot less carbs and using less insulin. It was the insulin that he blamed for the weight gain over the last 10 years or so.

About fruits, they're not allowed in the first 2 phases of Dukan, and the reason is that they contain fruit sugar - fructose - which causes a spike in blood sugar, which releases more insulin, which encourages fat to be laid down.

    cough fructose cough ;)

I think taubes sumes it up nicely, how many fat animals do you see in nature? how many animals do you see counting calories or going down a gym?

they eat what they evolved to eat

Oooooops, sorry, Eric, of course I should have said fructose.

The only fat animals you see are those that have their food provided by humans. Especially those treated as 'pets' who are carried about and don't even get the chance to use their legs!

In nature, animals use up as much energy in seeking out and catching their food as they do when they consume it. We used to do similar when we were hunter-gatherers. It wasn't a matter of picking up the phone and ordering a pizza delivery, or going in the car to McDonald's. If anyone is interested, read Eric Schlosser's book 'Fast Food Nation'. It's a few years old now, but the basics have not changed.

Could this be an argument for daily rather than weekly weighing?
