  • Frodo - I assume you do different exercises for bootcamp? How many did you do or shall I put it down as 1?[/QUOTE]

We did star jumps, pressups and squats mostly.

I cant get spreadsheet to open. Am I doing something wrong?

Has any one tried the Body for Life Challenge? Apparently the exercise really works wonders. Considering buying the book, just wanted to know if anyones tried it
    x

I hadnt heard of it but a little summary here

    http://www.everydiet.org/diet/body-for-life

Not the worst system I have seen, but not the best either.

Unless your going at exercise full gun ala Biggest Loser, loosing weight is 90% about what you eat. Exercise should really be viewed as a way to get healthy.

I do have a couple of concerns, it seams to be a fat avoidance diet, especially animal fats which is unnatural, unhealthy and not necessary for weight loss. Remember fat does not make you fat, sugar makes you fat (insulin converts sugar into body fat) and fat does not block arteries.

Also whilst you should loose weight on this system because it seams to be a scripted plan what will happen when you stop it and will you actually learn anything about healthy eating from it?

I've vowed that I am going to start a new chapter in my life from yesterday: Loose weight, save money and be successful in my career. I started exercising for the first time in over a year yesterday. I'm not going to give up on life's little treats, but I'm sure as hell going to work hard to enjoy them. I've started to walk every morning for an hour (around 3.5 miles) and eat relatively healthy and restrict my calorie intake to 1400 -1500 per day. I want to loose 2 stone by Christmas which I am sure I can. I've done it before, I can do it again. xxx

    Welcome :T

You have set yourself a very achievable target, good luck

Hi everybody! I'm a newbie and have been having a read for the last couple of days and thought I'd finally post. I've got to the point where I'm really unhappy with my weight and realised I really need to do something about it. My sister is getting married in May and I'm a bridesmaid so ideally I'd like to lose weight for then, I'm sure I could lose weight in 9 months?! I was told earlier by an old colleague that my face had got rounder since the last time she saw me - lovely! :-) Anyway, I'm thinking of joining Slimming World, do you think it's best to have group membership or online, I suppose group has better motivation?

I have no doubt that a group of like minded people can be a big motivator and offer some support through low points.

There red system is not that bad

Trouble is I always think of this :rotfl:

  • Morning guys and welcome to the newbies.

very hectic week hence not posting much. Friend burgled whilst on holiday, another one knocked off her bike by a car and my sister rushed to hospital (she is ok but undergoing tests to find out what's wrong).

I have got the 12 hour cycling time trial tomorrow and I am slightly scared but whatever I do it will be a PB!

I am off at 6.24am and will finish well 12 hours later. The course involves repeating 3 different circuits and seeing how far you can go. I am hoping for between 180 and 200 miles but the reality of the day may result in something quite different.

So in light of this challenge I have eaten more than usual this week, and STS at 10st5.75lb. I am ok with this as I have tapered my exercise this week too so have eaten more exercised less and well that's the result. It will be interesting to weigh in before and after tomorrow!

Will let you know if I survive.....

I looked at the Body for Life site as quoted. Not that I could even attempt those exercises, but I've also read what Tom Venuto writes in 'Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle'.

Really, things like this are misleading. Because there are people out there who MUST lose weight for serious medical reasons and there is no way in the world they can do any of that level of exercise! Next week I re-start on the 50+ stretch and tone twice a week and part of that is seated. Also aqua-aerobics. 3 times a week is going to be all I can manage.

I couldn't do 6 meals a day. What Tom Venuto writes makes sense though - we are not all alike. Some people, whom he calls 'genetically gifted', will struggle to put on a pound no matter what they do. My step-granddaughters and their mother are like that. Slim as a willow-wand, but then they're also young and active, no junk food at all. The eldest girl is captain of swimming at her school, and they get school meals with produce from the school's own garden! Pretty rare that, in the present day.

Others, Tom Venuto writes, are sensitive to refined foods, white flour, white sugar, and will easily gain weight. I'm one of those.

The people who run the stretch and tone that I go to, also run bootcamps in the woods near here. I'd love to be able to do that, doing strenuous exercise in the woods at 6 am, but it's a pipe-dream.
