Here's this weeks chart:
Congrats to our SoTW and SoTM World_of_tights.
Well done to all our losers and STSers this week, and commiserations to our gainers. Next week is a new week and your future is what you set it out to be.
Congratulations also to Angry Bear, Beanielou and Jess444 for completing the 5lb challenge this month.
If you want to join the 5lb challenge for next month post below and I'll add it to the chart.
Here's this weeks Pet Challenge chart:
Congratulations to this weeks winners the Cat team, and also to this months winners the dog team.
Next months team challenge will be siblings - teams will be brothers or sisters or both or none.
If you want to join in please post below which team you want to join.
Here's the final chart for the Exotic Holiday challenge:
Congrats to everyone who took part.
Next month the challenge will be to do 10 minutes of different exercises each day. To take part please let me know how many different types you will be aiming for - and let me know when you complete 10 mins of each type - I can't log 2 mins of each exercise as it will be too cumbersome to manage.
For those wishing to complete a distance challenge this month I'm planning on walking 11.7 miles up Ben Nevis as done by this walker http://www.britishwalks.org/walks/2003/489.php.
To take part please post which challenge you want to join and either the number of different exercises or the number of times you'll be walking up Ben Nevis.
This weeks quote is from Jim Rohn

ut down to not doing much excercise this week.
I have failed this months challenge again. Feel quite annoyed with myself as I made such a good start (for me) and fell at the final hurdle
On the positive side I have increased my excercise this month and have begun to enjoy three new classes at the gym - so bring on September :T
Good luck with the weight loss this week everyone.
Jess
You cant change the past so ignore it, focus on what you can do today
Having a picture of fat eric (not flat eric lol) on my phone has helped me to stay focused
Here's a flat eric

a lot of that 6lbs will be fluid, you should shift the bulk of it in the first week
this was a lot better but still needs refining, will try 35% cream, 65% milk and tipple the amount of vanilla they recommend over the weekend0 -
I appreciate body chemistry is not simple mechanics but I still think dieting can be viewed holistically. Dieting is not about feast or famine, it's the area in the middle, so adjusting calories lower but not extremely so gets the desired effect. My concern is that low/lower carbohydrate eating seems to be pushed here as the be all end all of dieting, all I am saying the old fasioned way of eat less and exercise more isn't wrong or at least it works for some or is it only me?
Occy
Its an incredibly complex issue, how the body processes food will take you well beyond PHD level if you go deep enough, I understand most of it but at the higher levels even i scratch my head lol
Biochemically we are all very similiar in how we process food (ignoring size, lean muscle mass and activity levels) but the one area where we do differ greatly is insulin resistance levels. Trials have shown that some people have a very hard job in putting on weight (about 20% of the population) and for about 1% its extremely difficult for them to put on weight regardless of what they eat. So if your one of the lucky ones with better than average insulin resistance you can get away with eating more carbs as your insulin will naturally not spike as much.
We do now that you can damage your insulin resistance by constantly eating high levels of carbs, there's a tipping point where the body goes into a cycle which is what causes people to blimp up
But it is important imo to control what you eat, even with no insulin if you eat enough food your body wont need to burn your stored fat. I do know thou on 100g or less of carbs a day I can eat about 30% more calories and still loose the same weight I would loose if I was eating 30% less but on over 150g a day of carbs
However there are some absolute truths
Insulin controls fat storage and fat release, sugar affects insulin production, by following a "low carb" diet you are doing everything you can to optimise your weight loss by working with your body and not against it. And remember low carb is not carb avoidance, you can eat a lot of natural carbs that are slow release. Aiming at 80-100g a day will make life easier for weight loss.
I totally agree with the old fashioned way of loosing weight, but to me that means eating how we evolved to eat for 99% of our existence which means natural foods and low GI low carb foods, we never ate processed carbs or sugar, ever, If we where lucky we would stumble upon some honey or a fruit tree that was ripe but this would have been infrequently and a treat.
and as a fun fact the first every published diet by banting was low carb
