    Yo yo!

I'm back in crawley now so i can eat a little better than i have been doing at my parents. Although i'll take free food any day of the week!

My standby at work has just finished, so i'm gunna wack the sports bra out and do some dancing. Instead of the gym i've basically worked out at home a lot, doing the dreaded plank and some sit ups. It seems to be doing the trick!

    Well done on the losses!
  • I have just downloaded the couch to 5k NHS podcast, and I'm excited to get going! Has anyone else tried this or similar programmes? How did you find it?

Also, I need to get some running shoes. I read that you need quite specific trainers for this - does anyone have any recommendations for running shoes that are good but also MSE friendly?

I also can't really figure out a running route, my area is quite hilly - and it's dark in the evenings, so considering putting it off for a bit, but at the same time, if it's dark no one can see me huffing and puffing about the place with all my wobbly bits trying to break free

Considering I can only run for about 2 minutes at the moment, I think this is going to be a real challenge!

Fred, could you put me down for the -5lb challenge, 1/4 of the journey to Paris and the Gary Oldman team.
  • Hello all!

I had blood tests yesterday and fainted, so have been eating loads and doing no exercise for the last ~36 hours... to make sure that I don't suffer another "episode" :(

Hopefully can get back on track with some exercise tomorrow and over the weekend though!

Also I'm another considering line dancing, but work might make it awkward...

    Hiya Wot!

As a graduate of C25K I can happily say good luck and its a great journey. I started in July last year and followed the plan religiously and can say it worked for me! I still run 30 minutes/3 miles or so 3 times a week, however look out for week 5 its a doosey. As for running shoes, I would recommend proper training/running shoes if you are running on pavements however not so critical if you are on grass mostly, I did laps of my local school playing field which I did in walking shoes/trainers I already had.

If you have a Smart phone I would recommend Edmondo which is great for tracking distance, mapping route and calories burnt also for preplanning I use RealBuzz which has a great route map planning tool, both are free.

The first week of C25K starts with 1 minute runs interspersed with walking running for a total of 8 minutes and builds from there so anyone can get started, I wish you all the best and am excited for you, when you get to the end of the plan you will feel like a real runner, there is almost nothing quite like it for self esteem it gives you.

I wouldn't mind trying the couch to 5k thing. I want to run the breast cancer thing (forgotten its name) I did it the year before last and struggled to heck! I was the last to finish out of my friends too. This year my friends mum and aunt have both had/suffering breast cancer, so i feel more of a pull to do it for my friend.

Plus i have so much free sodding time in Crawley!

Maybe if enough people were up for it we could start a little 5k group to spur each other on?

Matryoska - thanks for that article, it makes interesting reading.

I'm particularly concerned about my belly fat as they say you are more likely to have heart problems, diabetes and other health issues if you carry weight there.

What I find really annoying is that although I've always been overweight, it's only been in the last 10 years that I've developed a spare tyre where my waist used to be. I used to be a classic pear shape but I've become more apple shaped and I have a theory that weight you re-gain goes onto different places than where you lost it from.

I got a new laptop last year and the screen is very reflective, so when I'm starting it up and the screen is dark, I see my own reflection in it - a constant reminder to do something about my middle section!

Had a good session of aquarobics this morning, which is surprisingly only worth 5 WW activity points. It's not really an issue for me though as I only use daily points and track exercise purely for my own satisfaction.

    Have a good weekend.
