If you are happy to put your treasured Mum in a tin can like a Micra, then do so, and don't let me or anyone else put you off. If you can do it with a clear conscience then fine.
I take it then that you also consider the Clio to be an unsafe "tin can"? After all it's the same car under the skin.
As for driving dynamics (which another poster alluded to), it's no worse than any other supermini. The number of folks who say things like this and then jump into their early-2000s Corsa -- makes me laugh every time.
They're no slower than anything else, the drivers aren't the worst (that's MPV-drivers as I mentioned earlier), they don't handle badly (the Corsa is far, far worse), they're relatively cheap to buy, they're no less safe than any other small car (yes the previous model was kept going for too long and by 2003 it was showing its age safety-wise, although it's no worse than any other 1993 small car) and the so-called "cool" Fiat 500 looks like a mid-2000s Micra to my eyes.
The whole thing is silly. I'd say don't buy a horrible little tin box of any description, but the Micra is not due any particular derision in this regard. In fact the only true fault it has hasn't even been mentioned yet -- all those rubbish bits of Renault electrical garbage that mean the frog-eyed model isn't as reliable as its reputation suggests. That's the reason I'd never have one.0 -

I don't know anything about the Renault Clio, so I won't comment on something I don't know about. All I can say is I don't remember being held up by a Clio being driven extra slowly like I have with a Micra so many times.
I leave comments about something they know nothing about to others!!! (My sister used to drive a Nissan Micra so I do know something about them - but I never was brave enough to be a passenger with her)."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

So, you're yapping about Micra drivers, then taking pleasure in annoying others with your poxy caravan (probably being towed by a 14-year old MPV).
Yeah, makes sense.0 -

I'd say that's a fair comment, although please note that I want to buy her a small car because it is what she wants size-wise. So I really am stuck to considering the Micra/Clio etc.0 -

Then it was the Mini Metro.
Nowadays it's the Nissan Micra.
Whenever you come across a queue of traffic driving slowly in a 60 zone, there's always a Micra at the front of the queue. I've overtaken Nissan Micras whilst towing my caravan.
Nissan Micra's are driven by people who know nothing about cars and don't give a damn for other drivers.:mad::mad:
If you see a Nissan Micra, get past it. If you see two women in a Micra, get past it quickly. If you see a Micra being driven by a man wearing a hat, go in the opposite direction immediately!!!
Know just what you mean, saw a micra being overtaken last week by a hearse!!:eek:whilst the deceased was being carried by the pallbearers behind.:D:Dcounting down the time I got left.:beer:0 -

Are you sure that the Micra did not belong to the deceased?0 -
I take it no one has never googled "micra timing chain"ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0

I had a 1.2 Micra courtesy car, 2009 59 1.2 N-Tec.
Wasn't terrible to be fair, and the idiot saying "get past it quickly" probably wouldn't have accounted for a 19 year old male driving a courtesy car :rotfl:
I'm sure there are better small cars to be had though - too much Renault influence in this generation Micra for it to be as bulletproof as it's predecessors.0 -
I have seen a Nissan Micra 1.2 N-Tec 2010(10), 10,000 miles, 5dr Auto, MOT until 06-2012.
Do you mean tax instead of MOT? A 2010 shouldn't need an MOTNot a main dealer, it is a local dealer, non Nissan.
I like Micras and will expand on that after a little question regarding the particular deal you are discussing...
I always get concerned about buying such a new car from another brand of garage - it usually suggests that the owner was so unhappy with the car that they traded it in and didn't even want to keep with the same manufacturer. Why else would say a Ford garage have a one year old Fiat? There are plenty of deals to be had from Nissan garages - I'd go to one and haggle a bit.
With the introduction of the new shape Micra, the older shape has dropped in value (as with all models from any manufacturer).
I drive a large car with a big petrol turbo engine (so can speak from another perspective) and often get hire cars for work. I have a knee injury and can only drive automatics and I always request either a Micra or a Note - even though I could on my allowance go up to Mondea, Insignia size.
Micras are comfy (even on long journeys), have relatively good fuel economy, good visability and have a four star NCAP safety rating and some models have a really good spec (even heated seats).
I would definitely recommend the Micra.:hello:0 -
Tiddlywinks - wouldn't suprise me if the car is ex Motability and has been bought from auction. Motability cars go straight to auction if the lease is ended early for whatever reason.0
