And if anyone thinks you can't overtake whilst towing a caravan - then they're not a very intelligent driver. Towing has a speed limit of 50mph on single carriageway roads. Overtaking a Micra doing 25mph is easy on a clear road and perfectly safe and lawful. After all, I don't want all those behind thinking it's me holding everybody up, do I? :D

If you were referring to me, I think you missed my point. It's not the overtaking with a caravan I object to, it's having the bloody thing in the first place :rotfl:

I take your point! I'll think of you next time I take it out. :j:j:j

Well OP, I think I've driven some pretty good and some darnright cr4ap cars,
At the bottom of my list is still the Nissan Micra.

Do your parents a favour and look elsewhere.

Hope the advice is not toooo late;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Micra drivers are no better or worse than anyone else, imho. My wife had a 2003 1.2 automatic and loved it - no problems at all. The only thing to be wary of is the very poor acceleration, especially when overtaking caravans.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

I've driven some pretty good (996:)) and some pretty horrid (citroen C3 picasso :() cars too and imo the micra is fine - it's just a little city car with light controls that doesn't entertain, isn't exciting or fun to drive but also doesn't really fail in any major way.

If it's simply a mode of transport for nipping to the shops etc it'll be absolutely fine.

Why don't you read what I wrote? If you read it properly, you would see that I didn't say you shouldn't buy your Mum a Micra, what I said was (and I quote):

"You should get her a car she can handle with ease. If she can handle a BMW M3, then get her one. If she can handle a Range Rover, get her one of them. If she can't handle a Micra, buy her an electric scooter and let her drive on the pavements."

I never said she couldn't. The word 'if' is not difficult to understand.

Look at your first post. You just came on here and started ranting about Nissan Micra drivers. How is that in any way constructive; it does not help answer my initial question whatsoever.

As for your 'if' she can handle X, I already told you that is a plain ridiculous comment; she may very well be able to handle a Range Rover but that does not mean I should, could or want to buy her one.

And of course she can handle a micra; why else would I consider buying her one?

There are millions of people out there with a Driving Licence who couldn't handle a parking meter, never mind a car.

If you are happy to put your treasured Mum in a tin can like a Micra, then do so, and don't let me or anyone else put you off. If you can do it with a clear conscience then fine.

Right, so you are saying they are unsafe? Why did you not just say so in the first place, rather than launching into a tirade about peoples' driving standards?
  • I have an 05 Nissan Micra se auto and love it. It is comfortable and easy to drive, short or long distances and the acceleration is fine with the auto if you push the pedal down hard! The power steering is light so it is easy to park. Fuel consumption is v good and it has extras like a hidden compartment under the passenger seat to hide things in and expandable boot space for lots of shopping by pushing the back seat forward. Mine has been reliable too. I know it is not the quality of some more expensive cars but for me it is fine as an everyday car.
Why not let your Mum test drive it?
BTW I am a woman of over 60 and I have a "fun" car which is a Mercedes SL500, now that does go!!

But according to the above, I should feel terrible about subjecting my mother to a Nissan Micra! How will I sleep at night?!

In all seriousness, thanks for the useful insight.
