I take it no one has never googled "micra timing chain"

Comes under my general comment about French design and frog-eyed unreliability.

personally i have always loved my micras- & i certainly am not a driver who holds up caravans!!! cheeky beggar. my daughter now has my 53 plate micra as i have upgraded to a qashqai- purely due to needing more space in my vehicle but i do miss the micra, cheap to insure, cheap runaround & touch wood i never had any issues with it at all!!!
i personally hope that it will be a great car for your mum that she will enjoy many years motoring in!!

Hurrah! The MSE Driving Polis have arrived! Nothing other than a RWD 5 litre V8 is good enough for them as they oversteer perfectly on roundabouts with their adoring fans in awe of their driving prowess.

You're buying a car for your mum and you need to approach this purchase from her point of view, not yours and most certainly not from a selection of manly mongtards on an internet forum.

About 10 years ago my Mum wanted a Mercedes A-Class (a complete bucket o crud but that's not relevant). The salesman wanted to flog me the Avantgarde with the sports suspension, but I insisted on test driving the Elegance. The Avantgarde was sensitive to steering inputs - not a problem with me driving it, but I had to take that on board and plumped for the Elegance which was much smoother.

Make your choice by ignoring those on here who have nothing constructive to say. Most of them have probably never driven Micras as hire cars.

The 1.2 has 65BHP and is capable of 95MPH. While this is by no means fast, it demonstrates that the car is quite capable of keeping up with caravans.

Thus, any comment about the car is purely a function of the speaker's views on the driver, as the car itself is not at fault.

Do you mean tax instead of MOT? A 2010 shouldn't need an MOT

I like Micras and will expand on that after a little question regarding the particular deal you are discussing...

I always get concerned about buying such a new car from another brand of garage - it usually suggests that the owner was so unhappy with the car that they traded it in and didn't even want to keep with the same manufacturer. Why else would say a Ford garage have a one year old Fiat? There are plenty of deals to be had from Nissan garages - I'd go to one and haggle a bit.

With the introduction of the new shape Micra, the older shape has dropped in value (as with all models from any manufacturer).

I drive a large car with a big petrol turbo engine (so can speak from another perspective) and often get hire cars for work. I have a knee injury and can only drive automatics and I always request either a Micra or a Note - even though I could on my allowance go up to Mondea, Insignia size.

Micras are comfy (even on long journeys), have relatively good fuel economy, good visability and have a four star NCAP safety rating and some models have a really good spec (even heated seats).

I would definitely recommend the Micra.

Must mean Tax - good spot - but I pulled that wording from the ad itself (or so I thought).

That is a fair point that you mention about why the non-Nissan garage has it. Perhaps though there are a variety of reasons why they have it.

That's actually the only circumstance I have driven 1 in, as a loan car when mine was having waranty done. As I had an average family sized estate at the time the difference was quite remarkable.

The car was a 1.2 58plt if I recall. It was slow, It was very lightly built. It was a feminine car.

They offered me the same car a few weeks later when my car was recalled, I decided to catch the bus.

What I'm really saying is that I'm sure there must be better "driving" small cars out there, the micra sets the bar very low
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

You've never driven a Corsa then, clearly.

No-one seems to have an answer as to why the Micra is so much worse than the near-identical Clio either.
  • Make your own mind up is the best advice. All cars have good and bad points. Micra's can have rot issues, they can have timing chain issues, they can have gearbox issues. But so can any other car.

I had more trouble with my Clio (electrical issues) than I ever did with my battered old Micra and didn't have to coff out £300 every couple of years for a timing belt change.

When I learnt to drive in the mid-60's, the car that always held up the traffic was a Morris Minor.

Then it was the Mini Metro.

    Nowadays it's the Nissan Micra.

Whenever you come across a queue of traffic driving slowly in a 60 zone, there's always a Micra at the front of the queue. I've overtaken Nissan Micras whilst towing my caravan.

Nissan Micra's are driven by people who know nothing about cars and don't give a damn for other drivers.:mad::mad:

If you see a Nissan Micra, get past it. If you see two women in a Micra, get past it quickly. If you see a Micra being driven by a man wearing a hat, go in the opposite direction immediately!!!

Nowadays, the car overtaking you is a Nissan Micra, and I am driving it! My Micra is 8 years old, has never had any repairs, is reliable, economical, easy to park, comfortable....need I go on? Ok, it will exceed 100 mph, as would my previous Micra, oh, and the one before that too. As to my driving abilities, I have been driving for 41 years, and taught emergency fire appliance driving until 8 years ago. Perhaps the Micras you passed with your caravan were actually parked?
